Travel teams in between tournaments on their respective circuits come here to get quality games and to be tested. There were some performers during the early contest that showed they were ready to play. We will look at some of the players who performed well during the early games.
Drew Zahopoulo Drew Zahopoulo Crosby High School | 2026 TX (Level Up Elite 2027) – Zahopoulo, despite his team’s loss, showed that he is a very good basketball player. He is a guard that has the ability to shoot it from behind the arc and has the ability to put it on the deck. Drew is savvy and makes the right basketball play with a bit of flair. He will be a very good guard in this 2027 class.
Amare Polk ( Beast Elite 2026) – Polk was the best point guard that I saw in the early action. His ability to get down hill was amazing to see. He used a left right crossover to get guards on his hip and finished at the rim several times. When Amare did not finish, he found a cutter to deliver the ball to for the layup. His quick burst and explosion to the rim make him a guard to watch going forward.
Makhi King ( Dallas Showtyme Black) – King was another guard who displayed the ability to penetrate almost at will. He is a crafty lefty who knows how to get to his left hand and finish or find others. His skill at getting into the lane showed his basketball IQ is at a high level. King is definitely one of the better point guards that will play at Mayhem.
Dallas Guillen ( Beast Elite 2026) – Guillen may be an undersized post player but he knows how to use his talent and footwork on the block. During their two early games, Guillen showed he can definitely score when he has the size advantage using his body to shield defenders. He was highly effective at both blocks and scored when he had the opportunity. Guillen is a force in the paint and should be a go-to-guy when he is on the floor.
Cristian Lara Cristian Lara 5'9" | PG Johnson H.S | 2026 TX (Nike ProSkills San Antonio 2026) – Lara is a guard who plays under control at all times. If you wanted to model a point guard, he may be the one you use. Lara keeps the ball on a string. He knows how to stop and start, keep his balance, and how to set up defenders. His ability to get by guards using his dribble or to create space for his jumper was impeccable. Lara has good vision too. Definitely a player to watch this weekend
The early morning had other players to stand out. We will highlight those players, and others, as the weekend goes from the campus of Lake Dallas at the Mayhem in the Plex rolls on.
