New Madrid entered the game with a 19-1 record and a No. 1 state ranking in Class 2. St. Mary’s came into the contest ranked No. 2 in Class 5 with a 21-1 record. The game lived up to the hype as the SEMO area sports fans were treated to a high scoring, entertaining game, which was won by New Madrid Central 85-80.
To take from a hockey tradition, Prep Hoops Missouri has selected it’s Top 5 stars from the game. The NHL does three stars, but we’re going with five. Here they are.
Jadis Jones Jadis Jones 6'5" | SF New Madrid Central | 2024 State #248 Nation MO (New Madrid Central): Jumpin’ Jammin’ Jadis had another great performance as he scored 39 points and grabbed 15 rebounds to lead the Eagles. He displays fantastic leadership in addition to his tremendous ability. Anytime the Dragons mounted a challenge, he would come up with a big play, whether a bucket, a dunk or a big rebound in response. In addition to his heavy load of scoring and rebound, Jones has also taking a lot of ball handling responsibility on his shoulders.
Zyree Collins Zyree Collins 6'0" | PG St. Mary's | 2025 State #338 Nation MO (St Mary’s): The 6’0″ 2025 point guard was magnificent as he scored a game-high 40 points, which included 26 in the second half. He just plays at his own pace and he does not let himself get sped up. He was knocking down shots from all three levels. His range was well beyond the 3-point line and his pull up game from the mid-range was on point. The Eagles ran a number of defenders at him, including 6’5″ Jadis Jones Jadis Jones 6'5" | SF New Madrid Central | 2024 State #248 Nation MO , but he was still able to create a shot for himself whenever he wanted.
BJ Williamson (New Madrid Central): While Jadis Jones Jadis Jones 6'5" | SF New Madrid Central | 2024 State #248 Nation MO and Zyree Collins Zyree Collins 6'0" | PG St. Mary's | 2025 State #338 Nation MO matched each other point for point, the difference in the game was the 30 points that Williamson scored. He really picked up the pace in the second half as he got going offensively. He had a personal eight-point possession in the third quarter which was the difference in the game. He scored on a layup and was fouled. He completed the traditional three-point play, then hit two free throws on a technical foul on the St. Mary’s bench. New Madrid got the ball back and he finished the eight point run with a 3-pointer from the wing. He also hit a step back 3-pointer from the logo to close out the first quarter. He has been doing that all season.
Demetrius Griffin (St Mary’s): A 5’7″ 2024 point guard who scored 12 points for the Dragons. He did most of his damage in the second half and he was really going when St. Mary’s mounted a last minute rally which saw them trim a 10-point deficit to a single point. He has excellent speed and quickness and he distributes the ball very well. He really excelled in the wide-open game, where he was able to attack the basket and score off his dribble penetration.
Ra’Mond Brooks Ra’Mond Brooks 6'6" | PF New Madrid Central | 2025 State MO (New Madrid Central): The 6’6″ 2025 forward scored eight points off the bench and did a nice job on the boards. The long, slender forward also used his length to block shots inside. He has a nice touch around the basket and he also stepped out and hit a 15 foot jumper off the catch. He also runs the court well in transition.
