The highlighter of this article. After watching more of Benz to make this article, he could be moved up quite a bit higher on the rankings board in the next update. Great length and movement. On the Roosevelt Sophomore team, he’s used as the initial defender and chaser in their full-court press. He pressures the ball with fluidity and length. Gets up and down the court quickly. In the half-court, he will close out correctly and utilizes his long arms defending on the perimeter. Offensively, he’s very talented as well. A really good shooter from the perimeter and mid-range area. An absolute knockdown three-pointer shooter if he has space.
Davis is the starting 2-guard for the Spearfish varsity team, so he’s a solid addition. Solid size and length at 6’2 with an athletic frame. Runs and moves athletically, with an underrated skill set. Can hit open threes and finish plays at the hoop. His passing stands out as well. The decision-making and accuracy. Does a good job staying in front of his matchup on the defensive end. Gets his nose in the rebounding traffic to try and secure one.
Shoemaker brings toughness, energy, rebounding, and playmaking to the Webster Area team. Plays on the wing offensively, and on defense he’s counted on more from the interior where he’s alert and a strong rebounder that will pull them down strongly. On offense, he runs the floor, finishes his plays, and can catch-and-shoot three. A winning player at its finest.
Starting wing on the Sophomore team. Doesn’t possess any clear elite traits/skills, but he’s got solid size and a capable game to make plays. Seems to find the ball often and affect the game in many areas. Can shoot the ball from three.
Starting point guard on the Sophomore team. A small guard overall, but he has some game. A quick point guard that pushes the pace. Drives the middle and kicks to keep the offense moving and the defense on their heels. Elite court vision and sense, and a playmaking passer. Not afraid to attack the paint and compete with the bigs. A highly-skilled point guard and feel for the position. Only his size is a negative.
A Sophomore team player that has some explosive qualities to him. A sudden first-step that nearly always gains separation. Does well in transition and can blow past a back-peddling defense. Always in attack mode. Can handle the ball from the point with a quick and explosive handle on the ball.
Highlights
Doesn’t stand out physically, as he’s a 5’11 off-ball guard. But he’s got a solid game and is a steady playmaker on the Sophomore team for Sioux Falls Roosevelt. Plays with smarts and toughness. A sound defensive player that hustles and does all the little things, but is also able to score the ball.
Small in height but has a fairly compact build and moves with power and explosiveness. The more I watch him, the more I like his game and what he brings. Aggressive to score and is a shot-maker. Goes off the dribble and can pull up and hit jumpers. Takes it strong and quick to the hoop, going at contact.
A three-point shooter from the 2-guard spot. Not afraid to miss and will shoot the open shot. Good-looking shot with form and a nice release.
Starts at the point for the Roosevelt Sophomore team. Translates to a point guard, and he has a good feel for the position. A really good and composed handle on the ball. Can handle being pressured and still do what he wants to do. Looks to run the offense initially and doesn’t force an iso situation. A high-level and advanced passer. Would definitely like to see him grow a few inches to strengthen his profile. Has all the necessary skills.
