We are coming to the end of January, it feels like this month has flown by. Once we get to February, the intensity gets turned up and you can sense more urgency as the post-season is right around the corner.
This week in Class B, the top squads stay put. We did have a couple of upsets and some movement, so you will want to look below for more details and info.
Best of luck to all the teams in the week ahead!
Class B Power Rankings
#1 Bowman County (11-0)
Recent: W 75-40 Flasher, W 80-41 Richardton-Taylor, W 88-34 Belle Fourche, SD
The Bulldogs had a dominant week, their average scoring margin was 37.3! Bowman is a salty squad that gets after it on defense and they are an offensive juggernaut. Against Flasher, the Bulldogs were led by Bohden Duffield Bohden Duffield 6'1" | SG Bowman County | 2024 State ND with 24 points, Bishop Duffield Bishop Duffield 6'2" | SG Bowman County | 2024 State ND 16 points, Gavin Lambourn 10 points, and Nate Dix went for 7 points.
#2 North Star (11-0)
Recent: W 56-43 Park River-Fordville-Lankin, W 70-41 Midway-Minto, W 66-28 Carrington
The Bearcats look to be back to their dominant ways. They showed out and took care of business against the Mustangs and Cardinals. In the Midway-Minto game, North Star had some noteworthy performances. Parker Simon Parker Simon 6'4" | SF North Star | 2024 State ND led the way with 20 points and brother Karsen Simon Karsen Simon 6'5" | SF North Star | 2024 State ND chipped in 13. Dane Hagler Dane Hagler 6'4" | SG North Star | 2024 ND had a productive night and went for a Triple-Double (15 pts, 14 reb, 10 asst). In the blowout win over Carrington, the Bearcat scoring looked like this: Dane Hagler Dane Hagler 6'4" | SG North Star | 2024 ND 16, Parker Simon Parker Simon 6'4" | SF North Star | 2024 State ND 11, Garrett Westlind 9, Karsen Simon Karsen Simon 6'5" | SF North Star | 2024 State ND 9, Chas Bisbee 7, Alec Peyerl 6, Hunter Hagler Hunter Hagler 6'3" | SF North Star | 2026 State ND 6, Kale Prouty.
#3 Westhope-Newburg (12-0)
Recent: W 77-41 Drake-Anamoose, W 68-28 Harvey-Wells County
The Sioux just keep on winning and they have proven to be one of the top squads in B. They are not just winning, they are crushing! Walker Braaten Walker Braaten 6'4" | CG Westhope/Newburg | 2025 State #278 Nation ND led the way against Harvey-Wells with 26 points, 7 rebounds, and was 4/9 from 3-point land. Hunter Tolstad Hunter Tolstad 6'2" | PF Westhope-Newburg | 2026 State ND had a quality game with 12 points & 16 rebounds. Those are impressive stats when you consider the fact that the Sioux won by 40 and those two would have sat on the bench for an extended period of time in the season half. The Sioux might have a nice little test on Tuesday, they play at Mohall-Lansford-Sherwood.
#4 Bishop Ryan (11-1)
Recent: W 67-42 Our Redeemer’s, W 54-32 Surrey
The Lions looked like the kings of the court this past week. In the Our Redeemer’s contest, Ramsey Walz Ramsey Walz 6'7" | PF Bishop Ryan | 2025 State #313 Nation ND had a splashy Double-Double with 29 points and 12 rebounds. The STUD big man was no match for the young Knights. Jett Lundeen Jett Lundeen 6'2" | SG Bishop Ryan | 2025 State ND has also been playing well this year, he has had some explosive scoring games. Walz and Lundeen are a tough 1-2 punch.
#5 Hankinson (9-1)
Recent: W 58-48 Sisseton, W 64-62 Oakes
The Pirates have been a great surprise in Class B. I knew Earl The Pearl was a stud but I did not expect the rest of the squad to perform like this! It’s fun to see the Hankinson Pirates playing like one of the best in B. Raeshaun Earl Raeshaun Earl 5'11" | SG Hankinson | 2026 State ND has been performing exceptionally well, good enough for All-State in my opinion. Earl is averaging 27.3 PPG in the last 4 games. Cooper Boll is a quality role player and he has started to come along nicely for the Pirates. Boll has hit some clutch shots and grabbed some big rebounds when the Pirates really needed them. Andrew Jean has been hampered by a slight knee injury and that is slowing his scoring down but he has been tough on defense. Hankinson is getting really good bench minutes from Oaklee Medenwaldt and Parker Falk Parker Falk 5'9" | CG Hankinson | 2026 State ND . Mr. Falk is shooting close to 50 percent from 3-point land. When Parker comes in, he takes some scoring pressure off of Raeshaun. This week, the Pirates have Enderlin and Sargent County. I do not see Hank having much trouble with Enderlin, but the game on Friday in Hankinson vs. Sargent Central will be a must-watch matchup. Hats off to coach Carter Mauch, as a first-year head coach, he is off to a hot start and the Pirates have proven themselves as a formidable team..
#6 Glen Ullin-Hebron (12-1)
Recent: W 69-48 South Heart, W 71-25 Grant County-Mott-Regent, W 69-57 Garrison
I am a bit surprised that the Bearcats are winning this many games this season. After losing Ben Hosman and Kanyon Unruh to graduation, most people figured Glen Ullin-Hebron would be in the middle of the pack. I guess I underestimated coach Bruce Schatz ability to get this group playing at a high level. Will Mickelson Will Mickelson 6'8" | PF Glen Ullin/Hebron | 2024 State ND is the BIG name and best player for the Bearcats. In the win over Garrison, the Bearcats were led in scoring by Will Mickelson Will Mickelson 6'8" | PF Glen Ullin/Hebron | 2024 State ND with 17 points, followed by Riley Schneider Riley Schneider 6'3" | SG Glen Ullin-Hebron | 2025 State ND with 16 points, and Jaxon Rolle with 12 points. Keep eyes on the Bearcats, it will be fun to see if they keep picking up wins.
#7 Linton-HMB (9-1)
Recent: W 61-37 Ellendale, L 66-62 Edgeley-Kulm-Montpelier
The Lions dominated against Ellendale. The emerging star, Jace Jochim Jace Jochim 6'2" | SG Linton/HMB | 2024 State ND went for 20 points and he torched the net for 5 triples. Against EKM, the Lions lost a physical game in a post-season-like atmosphere. Against EKM, Jace Jochim Jace Jochim 6'2" | SG Linton/HMB | 2024 State ND went for 33 points and 6 triples, however, it was not enough to take down the Rebels on their home court.
#8 Sargent County (8-3)
Recent: W 66-52 Barnes County North
The Bulldogs played only one game this past week and they came away with a 14-point victory. Luke Martinson Luke Martinson 6'4" | PF Sargent County | 2024 State ND was a complete beast and finished with 26 points and 12 rebounds. SC was in foul trouble in the 3rd quarter and Martinson led the way/took over. Grady Wehlander Grady Wehlander 6'0" | SF Sargent County | 2024 State ND scored 11 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished an assist, and shot a high percentage from the field. Kolten Kadoun also played well, worked extremely hard, and did a nice job on the defensive side of the ball. The Bulldogs have a tough week ahead of them. Early in the week, they host Tiospa Zina from South Dakota, and on Friday they have a huge road game at Hankinson.
#9 Garrison (11-3)
Recent: W 72-31 Center-Stanton, W 53-51 #10 Wilton-Wing, L 69-57 #7 Glen Ullin-Hebron
On Thursday, The Troopers picked up a quality road win against District 6 rival Wilton-Wing. Braxton Iglehart Braxton Iglehart 6'1" | PG Garrison | 2024 State ND led the way with 25 points and was complimented by Little Hail Perkins Little Hail Perkins 6'4" | SF Garrison | 2025 State ND with 14 points, and Brody Seidler with 11 points. The Troopers lost to Glen Ullin-Hebron on Saturday. They hung around and battled but the Troopers could not overcome some unexpected adversity. On Tuesday, Garrison plays at Washburn, that will be a good one to check out!
#10 Wilton-Wing (9-2)
Recent: W 71-53 Washburn, L 53-51 #9 Garrison
Early in the week, the Miners collected a nice victory against Washburn. On Thursday, Wilton-Wing lost a 2-point game to a well-coached Garrison team. In the loss to the Troopers, the Miners scoring went like this: Bradon Wallace Bradon Wallace 6'3" | SG Wilton-Wing | 2025 State ND 20, Teigen Earsley Teigen Earsley 5'11" | CG Wilton-Wing | 2025 State ND 10, Dontaye Fetzer Dontaye Fetzer 6'0" | SG Wilton-Wing | 2025 State ND 10, Hunter Wolff Hunter Wolff 5'10" | CG Wilton-Wing | 2025 State ND 9, and Jonah Miller 2. On Tuesday, Wilton-Wing travels to White Shield for a District 6 showdown.
