It went from your traditional style of play with point guards and centers, to now you can put 5 players on the court and they just go play. It’s now called positionless basketball and it’s free range of motion to do whatever it takes to win. From the fast-paced 3-point shooting to full-court press with 5 guards scrambling, the game we love has taken a turn for the better. Check out who will fit right in the mode of just making plays!
Ashlyn Bohaty- Bohaty has a true feel for the game and has displayed that at Derby North. While most kids are trying only to get theirs, she’s the coach on the floor, and Ashlyn is trying to get everyone involved while still getting her points when the time is right. She’s your “big guard” in today’s game with her height jumping for the ball and bringing it up having full point guard responsibilities. She can rebound, pass, shoot, and finish. Her long wingspan allows her to get a ton of deflections on the defensive end making it extremely tough to pass in her area.
Ava Niblack- Ava is by far one of the most talented 5th graders in the state of Kansas. With her recent growth spurt and her already skilled attributes, she’s one of the most sought-after kids in the AAU scene. Ava can shoot it, handle the ball, and isn’t afraid to get to the rim and finish amongst the trees. She seems to always be playing up a grade or 2 and she holds her own easily leaving the court with making sure everyone knows her name.
Ashlyn Turner- Turner might be the best-kept secret in the area. Recently developing her skills and really taking it to another level, she has that swagger that everyone loves and what ultimately every basketball player that loves the game has. She has shown us that she can sprint back on the defensive end to block a shot and give everyone the waving finger stating you can’t shoot it around her. Her ball-handling skills are sharp and they will definitely catch you off guard if you reach.
Apollo Solis- Apollo has that innocent smile but don’t let it fool you, he’s as aggressive as they come. That lightning speed and quickness he has he will use it every chance he gets. From blowing by you when he has the ball, to defending you and sprinting to keep you in front. Solis has the athleticism that you can’t teach, mix that with decision-making and change of speeds, and the future is looking bright for Apollo.
Blake Goucher- There are some players that love to catch and shoot and really create a future for it. This looks like it will be the case for Blake which is his shooting ability. If Goucher doesn’t do anything else you can expect him to catch and shoot mid-range or beyond the 3-point line. With his long frame in the next few years, we can see him shooting over defenders in difficult situations and still knocking it down with the best of them.
