JYP Top 100 MLK Kick-Off: Day 3 Recap
Hampton, VA. — Championship Monday at the Junior Youth Phenom MLK Kick-Off brought out the best for the remaining teams alive and it was one of the most successful days in the gym for me in a long time. With the focus being the 6th grade, 7th grade and 8th grade gold brackets, I will take a look at the three major storylines from the day…
Team Thrill Finishes On Top in 6th Grade
In a close championship game against Smith Elite, Team Thrill found themselves hosting up the championship trophy after a narrow two point win. This group led by Kai Wiltshare, Colby Smith, Macen Reynolds and Carter Cooper are a group that will be making a lot of noise on the national scene in the coming year.
Team Loaded 2029 Continues Their Dominance
This Team Loaded 2029 group has been one of the top teams in the country for the 2029 class for quite some time now and they let everyone in Hampton know that they are at the top to stay. They built a strong resume in bracket play by beating Team United-Cooke and New World before capturing the title with a win over Team Trezz in the championship game. King Bacot is obviously the guy that works all the magic for this team but 2029 Jacori Thompson made his introduction.
Team United 2028 Cooke Steam Rolls
We can say with full confidence that there is no better team right now in the class of 2028 as good as Team United Cooke. They have been dominating everybody on their schedule and that continued in Hampton this past weekend. Epic Elite Ivy showed some signs of potentially pulling the upset but Jaleel Smith made sure United would not walk without the trophy. Chase Smith and Isaiah Whitsett helped with that mission as well.
