It was another dominant week for the Chapin Huskies with their star guard Brandon Hymes Brandon Hymes 6’4″ | SG El Paso Chapin | 2024 State TX leading the way. The senior started the week with a solid 10-point performance against Del Valle before sitting out the second half. Later that week, Hymes was dominant against a 17-5 Canutillo–one of the best teams in El Paso. The Chapin guard recorded a game high 17-points, scoring at all levels, while giving away nothing defensively. Hymes and the Huskies have now won 63 straight games against El Paso high schools.

Chapin High School had multiple standouts over the week and Jacob Garcia was one of them. The sophomore point guard was pivotal in the Huskies win over Canutillo High School as he scored a season high 17-points, hitting from mid-range, three, and the free throw line. Moreover, he did this coming off the bench, scoring all 17 of his points in the second half. It’s no secret, Chapin has one of the best sophomores in the Borderland.

It was a tough start to the season for Gadsden High School, losing seven of their first eight contests. That said, they are trending in the right direction with a current four game winning streak. Last Wednesday, they came up with one of their biggest wins of the season with a come from behind win against Da Vinci. Senior Juan Blanco Juan Blanco 6’4″ | C Gadsden | 2024 State NM was pivotal in that comeback. The Panthers went on a huge scoring run in the second quarter in large part to Blanco hitting three 3-pointers to give his team the lead. By the conclusion of the run/quarter, Gadsden never looked back. Blanco’s trio of threes were his only points in the game, but they were the nine biggest points off the game.

Immanuel Christian opened district play this week with two games against Amarillo Collegiate and came away with two wins. Junior Ben Story was fantastic in both wins with 22 and 21 points for back-to-back 20-point performances. On the season, Story has six games with 20 or more points. Moreover, it is the second time this season Story has scored 20 or more points in back-to-back games.

Azaiah Thompson and Ysleta High School had another great week as they have now won four of their last five games. The junior wing was phenomenal this past Friday scoring a game high 27 points against Horizon. On the season, Thompson has eight 20-point games and six games with 25 or more points. That said, his most impressive feat of last week was against Burges in a Tuesday night home game. Thompson got off to a rough start with very few shots and calls going his way. As a result of that, Ysleta was playing from behind for most of the game. But down the stretch of the second half, Thompson imposed his will finishing with 16-points, eight rebounds, and two blocks.
