There were four guys who had proven over time to be top playmakers who deserved to move into high positions on the list.
Here are the four guards added to the 2024 Class Rankings:
#53 – Matthew Corrales Matthew Corrales 6'3" | SG Olathe South | 2024 State KS , 6-3 guard, 2024 Olathe South (pictured):
A diverse offensive talent, Corrales had a really nice junior season, but had to wait to crack the rankings until his senior year. No problem. He got the year started on a tear, going for some big point totals and hitting the game-winning three in the Blue Valley Shootout. He’s a long, athletic guard who loves to shoot it from deep. Hats off to a fine 5-1 start for his team.
#54 – Kaason Thomas Kaason Thomas 5'11" | CG Campus | 2024 State KS , 5-foot-11 guard, 2024, Campus:
Another guy who was probably good enough as a junior to be in the rankings, Thomas unfortunately hasn’t been part of a lot of wins. But the Colts are off to a great start and look like they are ready to win. Thomas has been a great support to a highly-rated teammate, providing scoring and playmaking from the guard spot. As a senior he is improving on the 17 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists he averaged as a junior.
#58 – Jackson Bonczynski Jackson Bonczynski 6'0" | CG Blue Valley Southwest | 2024 State KS , 6-foot guard, 2024, Blue Valley Southwest:
The Timberwolves are off to a 5-1 start with the senior Bonczynski leading the charge. He’s a guy who can do some of everything and is just as good with the ball in his hands as he is off the ball. He shoots and creates shots for others. He’s contributing 16 points, 4 rebounds and 4 assists thus far in the season.
#72 – Maddox Spray Maddox Spray 6'1" | CG Great Bend | 2024 State KS , 6-foot-2 guard, 2024, Great Bend:
Spray seems to fly under the radar because of the high-level talent on his club team. For the Panthers, he tends to play a utility role, giving the team all the gritty, selfless plays that don’t get headlines. After a fine football season, Spray helped the Panthers to a 6-2 start (with two heartbreaking losses). He can heat up and provide offense and he never rests on defense. He was recognized with all-tournament honors in the Kingman Eagle Classic.
