The first half was back and forth as the Sabres got out to a 21-14 lead at the end of the first quarter, led by three 3 pointers from Peter Moye Peter Moye 6'3" | SG South Mecklenburg | 2024 State NC . The second quarter was more of the same as the Sabres couldn’t stretch the lead out much more, going into halftime up 37-28. Myles Howard Myles Howard 6'5" | SF South Mecklenburg | 2025 State NC had 10 first half points for the Sabres, while it was AJ Parsley AJ Parsley 5'9" | PG Mooresville | 2024 State NC who kept the Blue Devils hanging around.
Both teams traded baskets and played frenetic, physical defense during the third quarter, and I was impressed with Parsley’s tenacity and willingness to attack the basket all night long. A big end to the third quarter was sparked by Kyri Wilson with couple big baskets for Mooresville. Anderson Skelton Anderson Skelton 6'4" | CG South Mecklenburg | 2024 State NC had a major dunk plus the foul canceled out by Dylan Leuthardt Dylan Leuthardt 6'7" | PF Mooresville | 2025 State NC with his third bucket + a foul, making the score headed into the final frame 54-52.
It felt like Mooresville would fall just short as they were being held at bay most of the fourth quarter, until Parsley layup, steal on inbounds and a Chambers and 1 made it 71-70 and got the gym rocking. Moye made 1 FT then a big and 1 on the next posession to make it 76-70. Then we had a Wilson layup followed by a transition 3 for Parsley to make it a one point game. The Blue Devils got a stop and proceeded to have a frenetic scramble off a missed layup that culminated in an Eian Bailey Eian Bailey 6'3" | SF Mooresville | 2026 State NC tip-in giving the Blue Devils their first lead of the second half, 77-76. With the Sabres looking to win it, Moye was fouled on the floor with his team in the bonus, and he calmly stepped up and knocked both FTs down. Jalen Chambers Jalen Chambers 6'3" | CG Mooresville | 2024 State NC was then fouled on the other end for Mooresville, but could only make the second free throw to force overtime at 78 a-piece.
Chambers got off to a hot start in the extra period, making the first 5 Blue Devil points, but Peter Moye Peter Moye 6'3" | SG South Mecklenburg | 2024 State NC answered with a volleyball line 3 to make it 83-83. O board and + 1 from Leuthardt made it 85-85 as he couldn’t convert the traditional 3 point play. This gave Moye the chance to make it his show, as he made the volleyball line his territory by knocking down another 3 from there. The Sabres couldn’t put it away themselves as they turned the ball over with 14 seconds left, but Mooresville could only get a 2 on their last possession as the clock ran out, giving the Sabres a key road win, 90-89.
Moye was the unquestioned star of the show last night, posting a final stat line of 39 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. The shooting guard showed off an impressive ability to score at all three levels, knocking down shots from the parking lot as well as using his physicality and toughness to either finish at the basket or get to the free throw line. He’s a clutch player as well, scoring 24 of those 39 in the final segment as well as overtime. He’s going to be a massive pickup for whatever school decides to take a chance on him.
Parsley was the key to getting Mooresville going last night, as he made outstanding plays with the ball in his hands, both making plays and scoring himself. He finished with 24 PTS and 7 AST, constantly putting pressure on the Sabre defense by getting to the paint and finishing over bigger defenders. Also showed great tenacity and aggressiveness to play tight on ball defense and even though he was called for a couple fouls, kept his aggression up all game long.
Highlights
Skelton showed off his explosiveness and ability to finish around the rim as he finished with 13 points, going 5/5 from the charity stripe. He’s long and athletic which makes stopping him as he gets downhill a real challenge. Also explosive vertically, as he showed off a poster dunk as well as an ability to sky above guys for rebounds on both ends of the floor. Committed to Grove City, he’ll be a name that plays meaningful minutes next year.

Chambers ended with 23 points and 5 steals as he played tenacious defense and was difficult to stop when he had space to dance and get downhill. Very shifty and able to move well laterally in order to beat defenders hips and get to the rim. Capable jump shooter as well as he hit both some mid-range jumpers and two 3s in the first half. Should be someone JuCo coaches or D3s should get an eye on to add to their roster next year.
Howard was a name I hadn’t seen before, but he stood out as a rugged forward for the Sabres. He finished with 16 pts and showed off an ability to space the floor a bit as he knocked down a 3. He played good defense on the interior against bigger frontcourt in Leuthardt and Dylan Clark Dylan Clark 6’8″ | PF Mooresville | 2025 State NC , but was still able to keep them in check. He finished well around the rim on the offensive end, doing the dirty work to pick up easy baskets.

Leuthardt was a joy to watch last night, as he really showed how hard he played on the glass and around the rim. I didn’t get a chance to see him at their open gym, but the Swiss-American finished with 12 points and 6 boards on the night. He finished very well through contact, getting three and ones in one quarter, as he did well to finish around the rim. Solid shooter from the free throw line too where he converts most of his opportunity. Active on the glass on both ends.
