After all, there were no longer guys in front of the 6-foot-10 big man at Lincoln and now it would be his time to shine in the spotlight. Heisler wanted to do things a little differently this off-season to get himself ready, but while he ended up not going out on the AAU circuit he still was able to get in some work on his game.
“So initially right after the season, I was just trying to take a couple weeks off of basketball,” Heisler said. “Obviously going every day, it’s a lot. I just wanted to take a little bit off and just focus on hitting the weight room more and just like, doing a lot of individual stuff with me and a trainer and stuff like that. And then I actually broke my big toe, so that kind of also made it so I couldn’t play club ball.”
While the injury certainly affected his ablity to play in full court games, Heisler still managed to get in some time trying to improve his skills on his own. “I focused on trying to get better definitely in the post and also working on my three point shot,” Heisler said. “Just trying to so we can stretch the floor more this year.”
Not playing club basketball this past off-season meant that college coaches weren’t able to see him play, but Heisler notes that he’s still hearing from schools. Going into the season the list included Central Washington, Lewis & Clark, OIT, and some other D-III and NAIA programs. He’s completely open with his recruitment but has an idea what he’s looking for at the next level.
“Definitely somewhere where I’m going to be playing a lot and where I can improve as a player, not just be a role player,” Heisler said. “I’m hoping for at least like a good D-II.”
Heisler has gotten off to a good start this season. Playing the high-low along with fellow senior Tanner Overby Tanner Overby 6'2" | PF Lincoln | 2024 State OR , the big man is really starting to dominate. He’s averaging 20 points per game through December and recently was named to the All-Cactus Division Tournament Team at the Cactus Jam in Phoenix. He had this to say going into the year.
“I feel like I’m definitely ready for it,” Heisler said. “I mean, I put in a lot of work over the summer, and I’m ready to just show off everything I’ve been working for.”
Heisler currently ranks as the #37 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2024 rankings.
