The tough 6-foot-5 forward has stepped up both on and off the court so far for the Generals as they’ve gotten off to a 2-0 start, and it’s a role that he has embraced from day one.
“I’m still going to be the leader that I always am,” Kapranos said. “I got to be, especially for the young guys because again, there’s only a couple of seniors on the team and we got a couple of new junior transfers into the program, but there’s lots of young guys still, so I got to bring them up and also just be the best team that I can. It’s kind of my goal.”
On the court, Kapranos has provided what he’s always given during his career at Grant – hard-nosed play inside on both ends of the floor. One thing he’ll also show off is some versatility in his game – something he worked on improving this past spring and summer in club ball with the Oregon Prospects.
“It was a really great experience for me,” Kapranos said. “I was able to really expand my game from not just being the inside presence that I kind of was and the defensive guy that I was known for to more of an outside threat. And I’ve been able to show that three-point jump shot that I’ve been working on.”
One of the ways this versatility has helped is in Kapranos’ college recruitment. He currently holds a roster spot offer from Pacific Lutheran and other D-III programs such as Cal Lutheran, Linfield, and Puget Sound have been talking to him often. He broke down what he’s looking for most in a college basketball program.
“A really community-based program where all the guys kind of are like best friends in a way – it’s kind of big for me,” Kapranos said. “And everyone off the floor is really chill and have relaxed type vibes, which is me. On the floor. Just people who are willing just to go to war for each other every day. Just battle, battle, and battle.”
Kapranos currently ranks as the #33 player in the PrepHoops Oregon Class of 2024 rankings.
