Before we get completely immersed in the basketball season, let’s take a quick look into our rearview mirror at the football season.
PHD wants to give a shoutout to some All-State Football players who are also studs on the hardwood.
Congrats on making All-State in football and best of luck in the hoops season!
9-Man All-State Football Team
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State QB, 8-3 record
BASKETBALL: 1st Team All-State last season w/ 28.2 ppg, 8 rpg, 2 apg, 1 spg, Friesz a long guard, is quick/fast, has excellent instincts & super skills. Javin is a sharpshooter from deep & he scores from every level on the way to the hoop
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State QB, 11-1 record
BASKETBALL: 1st Team All-State last year w/, 27.4 ppg, 11.5 rpg, 3.1 apg, 4.2 spg, top talent in the Dakotas regardless of class, high-level scorer, high-yielding rebounder, underrated defender, an amazing shot creator, true scholar of the game
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State QB, 6-3 record
BASKETBALL: All-State worthy baller last season w/ 22.3 ppg, 6.8 rpg, 4.3 apg, 3.9 spg, bouncy & explosive dunker, ferocious slasher, finishes w/ power or finesse, predatory rebounder, unselfish/skilled passer, remarkable season ahead
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State RB, 8-3 record
BASKETBALL: He will be stepping into a larger & crucial role this year, Thielges is an energetic & spirited athlete, he will fill up the stat sheet but also do the little things to help the teams effort, does well setting up others, disrupts on D
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State RB, 12-1 record, State Champion
BASKETBALL: Averaged nearly a double-double last season, expect that to happen this year, takes advantage of what the D gives him, an efficient baller on the hardwood, scores at the cup off the bounce, O-boards putbacks & in transition
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State TE, 9-1 record
BASKETBALL: Solid jr season #’s, won many games, came on strong in offseason & really improved, all-purpose forward, will hurt in a variety of ways, works hard, will have the ball in his hands often, 3-level producer, physical & strong
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State WR, 4-4 record
BASKETBALL: All-State the past two seasons, nice #’s last year w/ 22.8 ppg, 10.3 rpg, 2.3 apg, 55 FG%, has crazy bounce, 1st or 2nd best dunker in ND, high-octane athlete who will have a good shot at being a Mr. Basketball candidate
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State OL, 12-1 record, State Champion, POWERADE Outstanding Senior Athlete
BASKETBALL: Easy to see why the Bison like this kid, BIG/strong, moves well, runs the floor hard, physical & productive on the glass, sets a mean screen, a beast around the basket, shoots his J with a high release, a top BIG in B
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State DL, 9-1 record
BASKETBALL: Looked good last year, winner, produced quality #’s, I think he could really have a splashy sr campaign, problematic matchup because of his 6’5″ height, mobility & ability to slash to the basket, an impressive shot blocker
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State DL, 11-1 record
BASKETBALL: Brings an inside presence to the Sioux, plays physical, rebounds hard, his post D will be crucial to their success, in the paint scorer, great compliment to Walker Braaten Walker Braaten 6’4″ | CG Westhope/Newburg | 2025 State #278 Nation ND , does the dirty work inside & cleans up around the basket
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State DL, 10-1 record
BASKETBALL: Averaged 4.5 ppg & 3 rpg as a frosh those #’s will certainly increase this winter, expect a breakout year for Mr. Benz, nobody works harder on the court, a vicious competitor, versatile defender who can defend positions 1-5
FOOTBALL: 1st Team All-State LB, 6-3 record
BASKETBALL: A double-double machine last season w/ 20 ppg & 10 rpg, if things go as planned, Kuhn will be named All-State in March, Wyatt is 30 points away from scoring his 1’000th career point! Aggressive/strong, multi-talented
FOOTBALL: 2nd Team All-State, 6-4 record
BASKETBALL: His bag of basketball tools is full, a gym rat who is always working on his game, can take over and put up serious points, an overall tough kid, scores points off the bounce by getting to the rack and with a nice pull-up game
FOOTBALL: 2nd Team All-State, 9-1 record
BASKETBALL: BIG & wide baller, looks like he would strictly be an interior player but Whelander can really stroke it from 3-point land, will help take pressure off Martinson & Wittich, if teams leave him alone they will pay 3 points at a time
FOOTBALL: 2nd Team All-State, 9-1 record
BASKETBALL: He will see a dramatic increase in his role this season, a lead guard for the Bulldogs, has a good looking perimeter jump shot, a quality athlete with well-rounded skill, he will thrive when opposing teams double on the SC BIGs
FOOTBALL: 2nd Team All-State, 6-4 record
BASKETBALL: Strong post player who will hurt you on the block & with his jump shot, scores around the basket with some nice moves/footwork, he can dominate the boards & get physical on D, had a quality offseason, tough as leather
FOOTBALL: 2nd Team All-State, 10-1 record
BASKETBALL: Showed that he is smart & a leader this fall as QB, produced impressive numbers on the hardwood as a frosh w/ 11.8 PPG, 4.1 RPG, 3.7 APG, will run the show at PG & have the ball in his hands a ton, good handles/sharp skills
