Carlsbad had potential to earn a bid in the winner’s bracket, they just ended up with a rough first round matchup against the eventual champions Volcano Vista Hawks. They dominated their way through the Consolation Bracket, earning the top spot on that side. Shane Sullivan was Mr. Consistency for the Cavemen, hauling in rebounds left and right, including a 17-rebound performance against Del Norte. 6th Place – Menaul Panthers (Team MVP: Nojus Zalenekas Nojus Zalenekas 6'0" | PG Menaul | 2025 State NM )
Menaul struggled throughout the tournament, but earned a win against Miyamura to keep them out of the last place game. Regardless of their struggles, Menaul showed flashes of why they should be considered one of the favorites to win 2A. Nojus Zalenekas continued to show his versatility at the point guard position as a do-it-all guard who uses his shiftiness and creativity to create for himself and his teammates. 8th Place – Miyamura Patriots (Team MVP: Brody Tah)
Miyamura was incredibly close to earning their way into the 5th place game. A second half collapse however prevented them from such honors, and they fell to last place in the tournament after struggling against Del Norte. Brody Tah was one of the lone bright spots, playing solid fundamental basketball and causing trouble for opposing bigs inside the paint. Shane Platero Shane Platero 5'8" | CG Miyamura | 2025 State NM was able to keep the Patriots in the game against Menaul with 15 pts and 3 stls, showing his patience and ability to run the offense for Miyamura.
