Before the varsity tipped off I checked out the junior varsity game.
Mesa Mountain View won 59-29.
Here were the JV Standouts:
Douglas Sweatt Douglas Sweatt 5'8" | PG Mesa Mountain View | 2027 State AZ Mesa Mountain View
A pure point guard with strength. He has a tight handle and it is very hard to take the ball from him. He can make a catch three or pull-up from the perimeter. He is a terrific on ball defender. He will throw up the court passes, drive and kicks and dump it off to a post player.
Ty Denham Ty Denham 6'3" | SF Mesa Mountain View | 2026 State AZ Mesa Mountain View (Pictured)
A long guard who is highly skilled. He can hit the mid-range jumper off the dribble and make the correct reads. He changes speeds smartly to get past his defenders. He has deep three point range and will rattle them in. He rebounds well in his area and is developing his all-around game.
Jackson Wilhelm Jackson Wilhelm 6'3" | SF Mesa Mountain View | 2027 State AZ Mesa Mountain View
A strong framed wing forward with broad shoulders moves well from end to end. The lefty has skill and can hit the catch three and work inside the paint.
Brody Anderson 5’10 SG 2026 Mesa Mountain View
A lefty scoring guard can catch and shoot from the arc. He is a good rebounder for his size in and out of his area. He will go inside to score on layups or mini hook shots.
Jestin Romero SG 5’11 2026 Mesa Mountain View
A scoring guard who got hot in this game. He can catch and shoot from the three point line and uses a running floater to score.
Jimmy Gardner PG 5’10 2025 Mesa Mountain View
An undersized pure PG is a true dimer. He handles the ball the majority of the time and will thread the needle or up the court ropes. He keeps his dribble alive versus heavy pressure with either hand. He doesn’t look to score often as he prefers to set the table but he can shoot it from the three.
David Onuh David Onuh 6'2" | SF Liberty | 2026 State AZ Liberty
A thicker wing can step out and shoot the three. He drives the lane well to get downhill with either hand. His best skill may be his defense. He is relentless on the ball defensively and will rebound plus block shots.
Trey Barker Trey Barker 6'2" | SF Liberty | 2026 State AZ Liberty
A strong framed wing forward has a quick burst to get downhill. He rebounds well in and out of his area and collects steals in the passing lanes. He does a lot of the dirty work for the Lions.
Vincent Busalacchi Vincent Busalacchi 6'4" | SF Liberty | 2026 State AZ Liberty
A versatile wing forward does a little bit of everything. He rebounds and can push it up the court. He will get downhill with a strong frame but will also step out and shoot the three. He makes passes with either hand look easy.
Joey Orca Joey Orca 6'0" | CG Liberty | 2026 State AZ Liberty
A long range shooter has really long arms to block shots and rebound. He has deep three point range and is one of the Lions better shooters on the JV team. He can let it fly with a quick trigger.
