Continue ReadingPrep Hoops Louisiana released its latest rankings update on Wednesday. As usual, there was movement up and down by players already ranked. There were also some additions to the rankings. These newcomers were from various parts of the state in different classifications. In this Prep Hoops exclusive, we will look at who is new and highlight their attributes.
Brhaelyn Brown Brhaelyn Brown 6'2" | SG Parkway | 2024 State LA (6’2″ | Parkway) – Brown may be the best catch and shot guard/wing in the state. When he gets a clean look at the rim, it is pretty much automatic. Brown sets his feet very early and has an ultra quick release. Teams who have played the Panthers and who will play them better find #4 quickly. If not, they may pay a big price.
Ryder Hamilton Ryder Hamilton 6'4" | SF West Monroe | 2024 State LA (6’4″ | West Monroe) – In the Louisiana high school ranks, a team can always use an athletic forward. If that forward can step out beyond the arc and hit the three, that is even better. Hamilton is exactly that player. He is a forward who can rebound in traffic and stretch the floor. His ability to play inside and out makes him a hard player to defend.
Keldrick Bowers Keldrick Bowers 6'5" | SF Tioga | 2024 State LA (6’5″ | Tioga) – The Indians have begun the season 8-5 and Bowers is a big reason why. Bowers, while slight of frame, is a player who can defend five positions due to his length and his athletic ability. He is very good at creating transition plays and finishing on the break. Bowers emergence as a scorer and a defender makes him a newcomer to watch.
Monwell Willis Monwell Willis 6'1" | PG St. Thomas More | 2024 State LA (6’1″ | St. Thomas More) – Willis is the point guard of the top team in Division I Select. The heady lefty is very good at driving to the goal and taking contact. He is also a player who will knock down an open three or two when called upon. His craftiness and smarts make him very valuable as a floor general for STM.
Kamuri Fleming Kamuri Fleming 6'3" | CG Southwood | 2024 State LA (6’3″ | Southwood) – Fleming is a player who plays various roles for the Cowboys. He can play the point guard and initiate the offense or he can be used as a slasher diving to the rim. On defense, Fleming has the ability to guard the point to smaller power forwards. He is an asset who rarely leaves the floor. He is one of Southwood’s most dependable players.
Other newcomers
Hayden Doyle Hayden Doyle 6'2" | CG Hicks | 2024 State LA (6’2″ | Hicks) – probably Hicks best player; he is a shooter that can consistently hit threes which opens up the floor for others
Eli Baker Eli Baker 6'4" | SF Loyola College Prep | 2024 State LA (6’4″ | Loyola College Prep) – very good scorer with his back to the basket; has deceptive strength and is quick off the floor when he jumps; rebounds well in traffic
Maxwell Allison Maxwell Allison 6'0" | PG French Settlement | 2024 State LA (6’0″ | French Settlement) – point guard who can create his own offense; he has a good shooting touch from deep; looks to get others involved first
Howard Etheridge Howard Etheridge 5'8" | PG Zwolle | 2024 State LA (5’9″ | Zwolle) – plays the point and knows how to push the ball up the floor; not afraid to take big shots, very smart player; knows how to create for others
Zy’kerrick Hunter Zy’kerrick Hunter 6'1" | SG Jena | 2024 State LA (6’1″ | Jena) – plays multiple positions, takes contact but knows how to dish it as well, all district performer
We will look for other newcomers to watch as we get closer to the next rankings update.
