Friday night featured four boys basketball matchups – three consisting of CIF Southern Section programs and one prep school game to close the first day. We take a look at the best scorers from the event.
Tyrone Riley Tyrone Riley 6'5" | SF St. Pius X St. Matthias | 2024 State #152 Nation CA-S | 2024 | St. Pius X/St. Matthias
It seemed like everything Riley touched turned into a basket in Pius’ 90-69 win over Pacifica Christian. The 6-foot-6 lefty scored a game-high 31 points, all of which came smooth, easy and from every are of the floor. The University of San Francisco-signee had a couple of impressive dunks, fluid mid-range jumpers, drives and finishes through contact and two highly-contested three-pointers.
Tavid Johnson | 2027 | Francis Parker
Johnson is one of Southern California’s most talented freshmen and he showed why in Friday’s win over Cantwell-Sacred Heart. The 6-foot-2 guard jumped out to a quick start as he knocked down four three-pointers in the first quarter and tallied 14 points in the first eight minutes of action. Johnson upped his first half total to 22 points with a handful of drives and finishes and finished with a game high 33 points to go along with 10 rebounds and five assists.
Tariq Bridges Tariq Bridges 6'5" | SG St. Pius X-St. Matthias | 2025 State CA-S | 2025 | St. Pius X/St. Matthias
Bridges was the perfect complement to his teammate Tyrone Riley Tyrone Riley 6'5" | SF St. Pius X St. Matthias | 2024 State #152 Nation CA-S as his barrage of three-point shots opened up the lane for Riley to attack the rim. The 6-foot-3 shooting guard knocked down four three-pointers – all of the catch and shoot variety – en route to 16 points in the big win over Pacifica Christian.
Jacob De Armas Jacob De Armas 6'4" | SG Mira Costa | 2025 State CA-S | 2025 | Mira Costa
De Armas is one of the biggest sleeper-type prospects in Southern California. The 6-foot-4 guard is a quick-twitch athlete with a good first step and second level speed which allow him to get into the lane with ease where he can elevate and finish over or power through defenders protecting the rim. He finished with 19 points in a 70-53 win over Crean Lutheran.
Kaiden Bailey Kaiden Bailey 6'3" | PG Calvary Chapel | 2026 State CA-S | 2026 | Crean Lutheran
Bailey’s name will appear in any “best scorers” list from an event that Crean Lutheran played in because that’s what the 6-foot-3 sophomore does. Bailey scored a game-high 25 points, including three 3-pointers, in the Saints loss to Mira Costa. Bailey is wired to put the ball in the basket and does so from a variety of spots on the floor. What Bailey does best is get into the lane where he can pull-up for mid-range jumpers or finish with crafty layups around rim protectors.
