These five guys may not always get the headlines and exposure, but they do all the small things and contribute in a number of ways. Keep an eye on these prospects throughout the season, where I see them becoming scary good assets for their squads in 2023-24.
Diaz should be a major contributor for Gateway this season. The 6′ PG is a pesky defender who will guard you for 94 ft. and loves to wreck havoc. He has a knack for getting steals and forcing turnovers, and is always looking to create offense from defense. Diaz is great at attacking the rim but really excels at finding his teammates, where he led the Eagles in assists last year. Keep an eye on this kid and his team as they look to make noise in the playoffs again.
Highlights
Nick Hodge
Nick Hodge
The 6’1″ CG will take on a much larger role for his Immokalee squad this upcoming season. Hodge looks to be the primary ball-handler for the Indians, he has a quick first step and and great body control which makes him very effective finishing at the rim. He is a solid defender with some sneaky bounce who rebounds very well from the guard position. He will be looked upon to lead this younger Immokalee squad in 2023-24.
Joe Silva
Joe Silva
Silva is a great 2-way player who really stood out to me this fall. He has good size which allows him to defend any position and rebounds the ball very well. He has solid handles for a guy his size and is an effective outside shooter with a high release and soft touch. Silva seems to be the glue guy for this Seahawks squad, where he’s willing to do whatever it takes to get the win. Keep an eye on him as I see his stock continuing to rise throughout this season.
Angel Pagan Jr.
Angel Pagan Jr.
A true 3 and D guy, Pagan Jr. plays the game with heart and intensity. He’s a fast player with solid handles and a smooth jumper, who can knock down the 3-ball consistently. He takes pride in his defense and will look to push the ball and get out and run whenever possible. Pagan Jr. is vocal leader and a real team player, and a prospect to monitor throughout the season as he continues to develop his game.
Roland Federick
Roland Federick
The transfer from Port Charlotte looks to be a key contributor for the Tarpons in 2023-24. Federick is a strong, athletic kid who plays the game fast. He prides himself in defense and is willing to guard any position, not backing down from anyone. The 6’3″ guard has solid handles and likes to get to the rim, but can also knock down the open jumper, and is an effective rebounder on both ends of the floor. Federick is a prospect to continue to monitor throughout the season as he settles into his new squad.
