Q&A with coach Jamie Nordick
PHD: Could you write a couple sentences summing up last season?
“Last season we had an up-and-down year. Young team, where a lot of kids had to step up and make an impact. Started off very well then the injury bug hit us and hit us hard. We ended our season with an 11 and 11 record losing to the #2 seed Sargent County in the second round of playoffs.“
PHD: How did the offseason go for your team/program?
“We were able to go to some summer league tournaments, and we had some players go to skills camps this year. Really working on getting our defense adjustments right and early so we can start the next season fast and strong.“
PHD: Who are a few of your top players to look out for?
C=Caption
C-“ Levi Ulven Levi Ulven 6'5" | PF Richland | 2024 State ND Sr. G/F 6’4 – All around player, big guy who can step out and hit the 3 or drive to the rim and finish. Defensive presence down low and an excellent rebounder.“
C-“ Nick Mjoness Nick Mjoness 6'1" | CG Richland | 2024 State ND Sr. G 5’11 – Fast strong guard, likes to get to the rim and also has a nice pull-up jump shot. He is very aggressive on defense and keeps his man in front of him while getting a steal and finishing at the other end.“
“ Casyn Syvertsen Casyn Syvertsen 6'5" | PF Richland | 2024 State ND Sr. F 6’5 – Our Big man, shot blocker, he has a very big presence down low, with great footwork and vision. While not being afraid to pull from deep.“
C-“Nick Wulfekuhle Sr. G/F 6’0 – Strong and fast. He has a motor that does not stop. Type of guy who will do what is asked of him. He is our best defender and he is our swiss army knife on offense kind of guy who can be a role player.” *All-Region in football this fall
PHD: Who are a couple of up-and-comers to look out for in the near future?
“Otto Dockter- Jr. G 5’11 – Coming off a knee injury, he has a chance to start or be the first guy off the bench. Someone who likes to cause chaos on defense. A guy who likes to get to the rim off the dribble.” All-Region Honorable Mention in football this fall
“ Carson Klein Carson Klein 5'11" | CG Richland | 2026 State ND – Soph. G/F 5’11 – A guy who can come off the bench and hit the big shot. He’s a great 3-point shooter and he has length that will help with his defense and be able to get the backside rebound and push the ball.“
PHD: What style of basketball will your team play?
“Fast and aggressive. We want to cause chaos on defense make the other teams play fast and get turnovers. We want to push the tempo but we don’t mind slowing it down on the offensive end and look for the best options.“
PHD: What are a couple of your team goals this year?
“1.) Keep improving each year. (11-11) last year want to improve that“
“2.) Win the big games – finding ways to overcome hostility and playing as an unselfish team.“
“3.) Win Districts and Regions (Make State)”
PHD: In your opinion, who are some of the top teams in your Region?
- “Sargent County- Returning a lot, Senior heavy, big and strong.“
- “Linton-HMB- have a solid nucleus, always tough“
- “Ellendale- Always tough and big. Physical.“
- “Maple River- Got a complementary team with great guard play.“
- “Hankinson- May struggle early, but they got great guards and will be very fast.“
- “Medina/Pingree-Buchanan- Young crew last year, and they get basically everyone back.“
