Pierre had a fantastic 2022-23 season. They finished the season with 16 wins and they took 5th Place at the State Tournament. The Governors lost a boatload of talent to graduation. However, this program does not rebuild, they reload! That was evident this fall when the Govs won the State Championship in football once again.
Make sure you take time to check out the Govs on the hardwood this season. They have impressive athletes, size, talented guards, and some intriguing young ballers. Pierre might have lost some dudes but they will certainly have a good shot at making another State Tournament run.

Player Comments from coach Brianna Kusler
Jett Zabel Jett Zabel 6'5" | SF Pierre | 2024 SD (2024) 6’5″ – 3.2 PPG / 4.4 RPG / 1.2 APG / 0.6 SPG (2021/2022 Stats)
“Jett is a strong defender and great rebounder. He has the ability to defend multiple positions with his size, and continues to grow his offensive post presence. He will return after missing the 2022-23 season due to a torn labrum in his shoulder. Jett is a tough competitor who brings another edge to any team he is on.“
Cade Kaiser Cade Kaiser 6'2" | SG Pierre | 2024 SD (2024) 6’2″ – 1.9 PPG / 1.6 RPG / 1.0 APG / 1.0 SPG
“Cade is a quick, athletic guard with outstanding defensive and rebounding abilities. He elevates well in the mid-range and has grown his ball-handling abilities and extending his range. We will lean on him for a larger scoring role this season, and are confident his experiences will provide a positive spark for our team in creating offensively and his intensity defensively.“
Tyan Buus – (2024) 5’10”
(Played last season at Sturgis) “Tyan has fit in well with his ability to extend the floor from the perimeter, defend many positions, and control the tempo. He is a floor general with multiple years of experience playing at a varsity level. We will lean on that experience and poise to complement our other perimeter players and inside presence. He has the ability to score in multiple ways, and is a positive leader in our program.”
Luke Olson Luke Olson 5'11" | PG Pierre | 2025 State SD – (2025) 5’11” – 2.2 PPG / 1.3 RPG / 1.1 APG / 0.3 SPG
“Luke is an extremely cognizant player. He has great court awareness and creates well for himself and his teammates. Defensively he is sound and creates opportunities offensively because of his awareness defensively. He’ll be tasked with being a court leader and creator for the Govs this season, and looked at to score in multiple ways.“
Miles Doyle – (2024) 6’3″
“Miles gives us an opportunity to extend range with his ability to knock down from the perimeter. He has worked hard in the offseason to develop additional levels in his game. He will bring poise to the team as a reserved, hardworking leader.“
Cooper Terwilliger Cooper Terwilliger 6'6" | PF Pierre | 2027 State SD – (2027) 6’6″
“Cooper is a strong, athletic freshman who will give us size inside and extend our post range. He is a physical competitor who is up for any challenge thrown his way. He continues to develop offensively, and will give us a spark with his inside/outside presence.“
Dawson Getz Dawson Getz 6'3" | SF Pierre | 2025 State SD (2025) 6’3″
“Dawson is a strong shooter from the perimeter and has worked to develop his ability to pull up in the mid-range and utilize his sneaky length to finish around the rim. His length creates opportunities for deflections defensively, and provides him the opportunity to defend many positions.“
Coach Kusler’s Comments on the Govs
“We will continue to see growth throughout the season as we enter into a new crew of Governors. After the graduation of 8 seniors, we will look to reload our arsenal while maintaining our core values of defense, rebounding, and playing an up-tempo, inside-out game. We look forward to the intensity and disruption we can create defensively, hopefully providing opportunities to kick-start our offensive transition by pressuring opposing defenses. The line-up may look different, but the competitiveness and effort remain the same. We’ll lean on that as we return to another competitive “AA” field this season.“
Best of luck to the Govs this season!
