News Salem-Almont is a Class B team in North Dakota. The Holsteins are in Region 3 and District 6. NSA is coming off six straight Regional Tournament appearances. Things will look a little different this season with the addition of 3-Classes in ND, Regions and Districts have been shifted and changed around. However, there are still plenty of familiar foes on the Holstein schedule.
The District 6 Tournament will be played at White Shield and the Region 3 Tournament will be at Bismarck St. Mary’s.
See below for info on the Holsteins.
Wyatt Kuhn Wyatt Kuhn 6'5" | SF New Salem/Almont | 2025 State ND (2025) |6’5 F| – The “BIG” name to watch for NSA this season. Kuhn is strong, physical, aggressive, scores from all levels, and he dominates the glass. Kuhn was All-Region 5 last season, he averaged 20 ppg & 10 rpg. Look for Wyatt to be one of the top forwards in all of Class B. He is a junior but Kuhn is a veteran as he has multiple years of varsity experience under his belt. Get Wyatt on your watchlist, he is only 30 points away from scoring his 1,000th career point. Mr. Kuhn should pass this milestone in game 1 or 2!

Player Comments from coach Kringstad
Wyatt Kuhn Wyatt Kuhn 6'5" | SF New Salem/Almont | 2025 State ND – “Potential All-State player coming into his junior season. Extremely aggressive player. Attacks the boards on both sides, a strong finisher. Working really hard to continue to develop perimeter skills to go along with paint presence.“
Landon Tellmann Landon Tellmann 5'9" | CG New Salem-Almont | 2025 State ND – “Our best perimeter shooter. Quick release and is our best “break-out” candidate. Works hard on the defensive end, a good overall athlete.“
Keaton Davis Keaton Davis 6'1" | SG New Salem-Almont | 2024 State ND – “Most comfortable in transition. Creative finisher around the rim. Has a lot of length for a Class B perimeter player. Potential All-District and All-Region season ahead of him.“
Q&A with coach Ben Kringstad
PHD: How did last season go for your squad?
“Last season was a learning opportunity for our guys. It had too much of a rollercoaster feel, and we struggled to find consistency in any facet of our game. We bring back a ton of experience and over 75% of last season’s scoring.“
PHD: Can you tell us about your off-season?
“Thought we had a fairly strong off-season. Our kids attacked the weight room, and besides your typical “open gym” schedule, we played in 3 team camps.“
PHD: Who are your top guys to watch this season?
“ Wyatt Kuhn Wyatt Kuhn 6'5" | SF New Salem/Almont | 2025 State ND will be the focal point this season. Coming off a Sophomore campaign of 20 and 10, he has the potential to have a special career with these last 2 seasons. Is 30 points away from 1,000 starting his junior season. Landon Tellmann Landon Tellmann 5'9" | CG New Salem-Almont | 2025 State ND will be our #2. He will play some point but will also take advantage of his shooting by moving him around on the wing. Really think he can have a big junior season for us.“
PHD: Do you have any up-n-comers we should look out for?
“Up and comer: Sophomore Burel Erickson would be the leading candidate for up and comer. Started seeing varsity minutes last season as a freshman before suffering a knee injury. Can shoot, has good length, and rebounds well for a guard. Justin Sanders Justin Sanders 6'2" | PF New Salem-Almont | 2028 ND is another name to look out for in the next couple of seasons. 6’2″ 8th grader who will play JV this season but will be looked at for a varsity role as a freshman.”
PHD: What style of basketball will you play?
“We are not as post-heavy as previous years and will look to be a little more transition-oriented. Will still try and have a balanced overall attack, but have the length and athleticism to put a lot of pressure on the rim. Will continue to be multiple on defense, and will look to hang our hat on that side of the court.“
PHD: Do you have any team goals?
“Team goal is to be in the Regional Tournament. We have made the Regional Tournament 6 straight seasons, and this is not the year to miss it with the 3rd/4th place challenge games.“
PHD: Who do you see as the top teams in your Region?
“Top Teams in Region: Bowman County, Flasher, Wilton-Wing, Washburn. All 4 of those teams can really fill it up from the 3-point line. Their biggest advantage over the rest of the Region is their ability to shoot the ball.“

Best of luck to the Holsteins!
