Q&A with coach Tanner Groth
PHD: Could you write a couple sentences summing up last season?
“Injuries during the football season changed the landscape of our season early. Multiple younger athletes stepped up when called upon to provide quality minutes during the season for us. We fell short of our goal of reaching the Regional Tournament. Improvements were made at all levels inside of our program, I look forward to seeing where we are at on Day 1 this season.“
PHD: How did the off season go for your team/program?
“Busy off season with the majority of the athletes working on speed/agility most mornings. Majority of work was done within our own facilities with athletes working on individual skills needed to help push the program in the right direction.“
PHD: Who are a few of your top players to look out for?
“ Rayce Worley Rayce Worley 6'4" | SF Langdon Area/Edmore/Munich | 2024 State ND (6’4” Senior) – High IQ player who sees the floor well. Great shooter that can hit from most spots on the floor, great touch on his floater/runner. His length and athleticism makes him a threat on the defensive side of the ball, great shot blocker and rebounds the ball very well. Has the ability to take over the game on both sides of the ball for us, very passionate on the court.“
“ Cody Amble Cody Amble 6'3" | SG Langdon Area | 2025 State ND (6’3” Junior) – Unrealized basketball potential. Has all the tools to be someone who dominates both sides of the ball for us. Lefty slasher that’s improved his shot each year. One of the top defenders for the team, uses his quickness and leaping ability to disrupt things on the defensive side. Rebounds well and looks to attack the rim out of the break.“
“ Nickolas Kingzett Nickolas Kingzett 5'11" | CG Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich | 2024 State ND (5′ 11” Senior) – High energy athlete, uses that energy on the defensive side of the ball very well. Disrupts passing lanes and works opposing teams ball handlers. Offensively he attacks the rim well and facilitates for us. Outstanding rebounder from the guard position. Has a nose for the ball.“
PHD: Who are a couple of up-and-comers to look out for in the near future?
“Levi Swanson (5’11” Sophomore) – Good shooter, good ball handler, good anticipation, high energy, hard worker, good passer.“
“Tanner McDonald (6’2” Sophomore) – Good mid-range jumper, good rebounder, passes well from the post, defends well.“
“Jax Johnson (6′ Sophomore) – Great defender, good ball handler, good passer, attacks hard, high IQ, gritty attitude.“
“ Theo Romfo Theo Romfo 6'2" | SF Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich | 2026 ND (6’2” Sophomore) – Developing post moves, good mid-range jumper, good rebounder, passes well as a big man.“
PHD: What style of basketball will your team play?
“We’ve been a team that relies on our defense to create easy opportunities for us on the offensive side of the ball in the past. We will continue to rely on our defense to get us going this upcoming season, but I expect our offense to open up a little more and things will come a lot more easier for us on the offensive side of the ball. We’ve got the athletes to play a fast paced hectic style of game, which will play into our athletes strengths.“
PHD: What are a couple of your team goals this year?
“A very obvious goal for our team is to put ourselves within the top 4 seeds within our district and to be playing basketball in the month of March.“
