It was in HS team format and I watched 15+ different teams and saw many newcomers.
Here were some of the standout guard newcomers:
MarQuez Tyree MarQuez Tyree 6'2" | SG Walden Grove | 2024 State AZ Walden Grove
The Sahuarita transfer is a handful. He dunks it easily and can drive and kick it to his teammates as he is a good passer. He has broad shoulders and a long arms to play the passing lanes. He can shoot it from the perimeter but once he gets a step on his defender, he will usually lay it in. On Monday his rankings and the other seniors will be moved differently. Tyree is actually in the top-100.
Travon Howard Travon Howard 6'2" | CG ALA West-Foothills | 2026 State AZ ALA West Foothills (Pictured)
A bigger combo guard has size and length. He is fast in the open court and makes the extra pass. He can shoot the three off the dribble or catch. He is a very good defender in space using his length, quick feet and size.
Bryson Gundry Bryson Gundry 6'0" | SG Mesa Mountain View | 2025 State AZ Mesa Mountain VIew
An undersized shooting guard can drive thru in traffic with zero fear. He can pull-up from mid-range but his toughness shines through in the paint among the taller players. One of many good juniors for the Toros.
Cody Haught Cody Haught 5'10" | CG ALA West-Foothills | 2024 AZ ALA West Foothills
The teams shooter has quickness and a pretty touch. He can rattle in triples off the catch or dribble. His speed with the ball is obvious and he can make passes with either hand. He should have a big season alongside PG Foster.
Talan Speir Talan Speir 5'11" | PG Ben Franklin | 2026 State AZ Ben Franklin
A pure point guard is always looking up to make plays. He throws up the court passes and plays from the neck up. He controls the offense, handles ball pressure and plays at a good pace.
Daniel Schoen Daniel Schoen 5'11" | SG West Phoenix | 2024 State AZ West Phoenix CAA
A natural scorer from the perimeter. He is a three point shooter who handles it well and has speed. He shoots it off the catch and can pull up from mid-range. He uses the pick and roll well and can make a play.
Chase Nelson Chase Nelson 6'2" | PG Skyline Prep | 2024 CA-S Skyline Prep
A pure point guard with a high feel for the game. His eyes are always looking up and he gets the ball out quickly and passes with either hand. He handles it with his left hand exceptionally well. He is a downhill attacking facilitator with a nice pull-up from mid-range. Easily top-100 which will be adjusted on Monday.
Carter Brown Carter Brown 6'0" | CG Ironwood Ridge | 2025 State AZ Ironwood Ridge
A lefty combo guard has some confidence and can score. He moves the ball unselfishly to his teammates and has a quick shooting release. He can rattle them in with range and handles contact well to score in the post.
Micah Joynes Micah Joynes 5'11" | CG Crismon | 2026 State AZ Crismon
A very quick guard can play on or off the ball. He is quick on the ball defensively and is fast in the open court. He has a deceptive first step to get to the rim and score around traffic.
Conway Cummard Conway Cummard 6'0" | CG Mesa | 2024 State AZ Mesa
A combo guard can drive the lane. He plays on or off the ball and has a shifty handle. He makes smart reads, and like every Cummard, he is tough. He changes speeds and is deceptively quick. He uses the pick and roll game well and he is going to be their closer this season.
Daniel Arnett Daniel Arnett 6'2" | SG Mesa | 2024 State AZ Mesa
The teams top shooter is a catch and shoot three point sniper. He squares up quickly and gets it out of his hands, he runs the floor well and shows good body control in the lane. He is a good passer and can drive the lane.
Gio Young Gio Young 5'10" | SG Phoenix Christian | 2027 State AZ Phoenix Christian
A strong framed downhill guard with his running back like build. He often shot fakes and blows by his defender into the paint. He is a streaky three point shooter but can make them. He also happens to be the younger brother of Tommy Randolph Tommy Randolph 6'2" | PG Pinnacle | 2024 State AZ .
