Usually it’s smaller guards and forwards stealing the show, but the bigs showed up and showed out with impressive versatility this past weekend. Below are a skilled handful who grabbed the attention of attendees and opponents alike.

Ja’Corian can flat out play and use his size to his advantage in multiple ways. It’s not so much his height, but his solid build that he’s able to exploit his opponents with. He can get to his spots whenever he wants and body his defenders in the paint. The thing that stood out the most to me about Oes was his patience. If he got in a bind or swarmed, he never panicked. He either worked his way out of it with excellent footwork or found his outlet man and kept the ball moving up the floor for his team. He’s got a high basketball IQ for his age and it will only get better.

Wyatt is incredibly versatile. At his age, he towers over most of his opponents at 6’10” and he has plenty of time to potentially grow into an extremely productive 7-footer. His shooting range is vast and that helps draw his defenders out of the paint and open up multiple driving lanes for his teammates. He’s smart and he doesn’t force anything. Great footwork and he knows where his teammates are to get them efficient looks. He’s not afraid to take the ball down the floor himself and he’s got a nice handle for a big man.

Jeremiah is incredibly strong and he knows how to use that to his advantage. He’s not afraid to go head-to head with anyone in the paint and he often leaves his defenders puzzled on what to do next. In addition to his strength, his speed and vertical ability are on another level as well. He elevates above his opponents and can finish at the rim in multiple ways. He uses his length on defense to give his opponents fits and block or alter their shots regularly. He’s got excellent court vision and is an extremely accurate passer which sets his teammates up for success.

Mitchell’s length is incredible and he uses it extremely well. He can shut his opponents down on defense with an effective hand in the face to alter their shots or block them altogether. He also has surprisingly quick hands for a big and can steal the ball from his man in a second leading to plenty of points in transition. He can run the floor and find his lanes for easy buckets in the paint and knows how to find his teammates on the outside for good looks as well. Great box-outs and rebounding on both ends and he uses his length to efficiently pass around defenders.

Herron plays impressively well in the paint on both ends. Whether it’s a windmill dunk driving down the lane or a complete stuff of his opponent on defense, he knows how to positively affect the game in multiple ways. Excellent on the offensive glass and gets his team second and third shot attempts on the regular. He has a quick turnaround shot once you get him the ball in the key and he can often elevate over his defenders with ease due to his size. His length significantly bothers his opponents on defense and he’s got fast hands to rack up steals as well.
