This is a league that was hit hard by graduations, with the top nine scorers in the conference from last season gone. Batta, the Titans’ top player, is our pick to win POY in the league as a result. South Central Calhoun has been at the top of the league alongside Newell-Fonda and Sioux Central in recent years, and if they are going to be at the top again, it will be because of Batta.
First Team
2024 Gavin Batta Gavin Batta 6'3" | SF South Central Calhoun | 2024 State IA (South Central Calhoun): 13.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, 1.5 assists
A versatile wing who can defend multiple positions as well as score inside and out, Batta will be the focal point of the gameplan on both ends of the floor for the Titans as a senior. He impacts the game in a variety of ways.
2025 Kelan Koval (Manson-Northwest Webster): 14.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.3 steals
Koval (pictured) is a do-it-all guard for the Cougars who can stuff the stat sheet in a variety of ways. He’s a good athlete who likes to play downhill and use his toughness and speed to put pressure on opposing teams.
2025 Byron Maina Byron Maina 5'11" | PG Emmetburg | 2025 State IA (Emmetsburg): 12.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 2.8 assists, 1.4 steals, 40.7 3P%
Maina is a quick-twitch guard who can get to the rim using a quick first step and strong handles. He’s a bouncy guard who competes on the glass on both ends of the floor, and he’s a quality playmaking threat who puts constant pressure on opposing teams. He shot it really well from deep last season, especially off the dribble.
2024 Ethan Behrens Ethan Behrens 5'11" | SF Pocahontas Area | 2024 State IA (Pocahontas Area): 12.1 points, 7.6 rebounds, 1.3 assists, 1.3 steals, 47.2 FG%
Behrens is an undersized big man, listed at 5-11 last season, but he has a non-stop motor and is a physical forward who never shies away from contact. He was really good on the glass on both ends of the floor (3.2 offensive rebounds a game), and that physicality and motor make him a really valuable player for the Indians.
2025 Logan Moline Logan Moline 6'3" | SF Manson-Northwest Webster | 2025 State IA (Manson-Northwest Webster): 13.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.7 steals, 37.1 3P%, 76.6 FT%
Moline will pair with Koval to give the Cougars arguably the best tandem and backcourt in the conference. He’s a good shooter and playmaker who can score from all three levels.
