An athletic forward who controls the game on both ends of the floor for the Hawks, Van Dyke is our pick for PPOY among several good candidates because he’s the most important player for the team that we expect will win the division.
First Team
2024 Klayton Van Dyke Klayton Van Dyke 6'5" | PF Lynnville-Sully | 2024 State IA (Lynnville-Sully): 11.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 1.1 steals, 1.4 blocks, 68.9 FG%
Van Dyke is an athletic 6-6 forward who can protect the paint defensively, pound the glass on both ends (4.2 offensive rebounds a game last season), and finish around the rim with remarkable efficiency. He’s the focal point of the gameplan on both ends of the floor for the Hawks.
2026 Brady Boulton Brady Boulton 5'8" | PG Montezuma | 2026 State IA (Montezuma): 14.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 3.0 steals, 39.2 3P%, 80.0 FT%
Boulton was one of the top scoring freshmen in the state last season, showing the ability to really shoot it from behind the arc off the catch. He should have the ball in his hands much more this season following the graduations of Masin Shearer and Gavin Strong.
2024 Nolan Andersen Nolan Andersen 6'3" | SF North Mahaska | 2024 State IA (North Mahaska): 12.8 points, 6.3 rebounds, 1.8 assists, 1.8 steals, 65.3 FG%
Andersen was really good last season for the Warhawks and will be asked to do a ton for them this season following the graduations of four starters. He’s a bouncy 6-3 combo forward who can score inside and out as well as create off the dribble a bit for his teammates.
2024 Garrett Watts (Montezuma): 12.4 points, 5.9 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 48.5 FG%
A 6-1 forward who does a great job on the glass, Watts is a pretty good finisher around the rim and is also capable of stretching the floor. He’s a solid defender and good passer for the Braves, a perennial power in this league.
2024 Corder Noun Harder Corder Noun Harder 5'9" | PG Lynnville-Sully | 2024 State IA (Lynnville-Sully): 7.1 points, 3.0 rebounds, 6.3 assists, 2.2 steals
Noun Harder was among the state leaders in assists last season and is a true pass-first point guard who values possessions and does a great job commanding the offense for the Hawks. He posted a 3.43 assist-to-turnover ratio and is also a menace on the defensive end.
