A dynamic all-around player with great size on the perimeter at 6-5/6-6, Heydon is a do-it-all weapon for the Crusaders who stuffs the stat sheet and is a major matchup problem in the Rolling Valley.
First Team
2026 Cal Heydon Cal Heydon 6'4" | SF Coon Rapids-Bayard | 2026 State IA (Coon Rapids-Bayard): 20.2 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.5 steals, 48.6 FG%, 81.2 FT%
A versatile weapon who can create looks for himself and his teammates, defend multiple positions, rebound on both ends of the floor, and score inside and out, Heydon was one of the best freshmen in the state last season and should have an excellent sophomore season for the Crusaders.
2024 Cash Emgarten (Exira-EHK): 15.2 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.3 assists, 1.6 steals
Emgarten (pictured) is the leading scorer for a Spartans team that may be the team to beat in the conference this season. He’s a 6-2/6-3 wing who can create looks for himself off the dribble, and he’s at his best when he’s playing downhill and attacking.
2025 Carter Gruver Carter Gruver 5'10" | PG Woodbine | 2025 State IA (Woodbine): 18.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 4.6 assists, 2.4 steals
A 5-10 guard who can score in bunches or create for his teammates, Gruver puts constant pressure on opposing players on both ends of the floor with his speed. He moves his feet well on the defensive end, sees the floor well, and is a good finisher at the rim.
2024 Aiden Flathers (Exira-EHK): 11.3 points, 3.4 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 1.2 steals, 40.2 3P%
Flathers pairs with Emgarten to give the Spartans the best one-two punch in the conference. He’s a talented guard who can play with or without the ball in his hands, and he’s a really good shooter either off the dribble or the catch.
2024 Cade Behrens (Coon Rapids-Bayard): 11.9 points, 4.5 rebounds
Behrens accounted for nearly 70% of the Crusaders’ made 3-pointers last season. If he’s able to become a bit more efficient from the arc, he could have a huge senior season.
