No state champions may have been crowned last week, but the road to this year’s victors will commence next month. Prior to then, many of those top prospects converged in several states for the final Top 250 Expos of the year.
Georgia (at LakePoint Sports in Bartow County) as well as Illinois, Indiana and Kansas all played host to various events.
With all the talent that was on hand, 20 teams were organized and one of the most stacked was Team 6.
Mark “MJ” Beasley
Mark “MJ” Beasley
He had a bit more of a trek than many of the young stars that was on hand at this year’s Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo. While the home state of Georgia made up the lion’s share of participants, Beasley plays for a school out of Florida – 3A Bishop Snyder to be exact. His 5-foot-11 frame certainly came in useful as his Team 6 was locked in one of the more entertaining contests of the day – an offensively-driven matchup with Team 9 towards the end of the day. Beasley knows how to make transition plays, does not give up on a play, is a heads-up defender and has no problems trying his hand at the 3-point shot.
Callaway was the lone representative from the 2A Eagles of Columbia on hand at this year’s Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo. He did his school proud throughout Sunday’s play. During the travel season, he has participated with AJ Bouye Gold. Callaway is one who can score at all three levels and a reason for this is his ability to slice and dice through defenses en route to the cup. He understands how to organize an offense in a halfcourt set and will find a way to the basket. Add in passing ability, a few creative finishes here and there and long-range shooting and one will be hard pressed to find someone who is more of a complete player than Callaway.
Given the school he plays for – 5A Cartersville – Bennett had to have somewhat of a home court advantage going into this season’s Prep Hoops Top 250 Expo. Among the many elements to Bennett’s complete game is an ability to deliver creative finishes at the rim and display how nifty he can be with his footwork. A 3-point jump shot is also part of Bennett’s overall offensive arsenal. Bennett is listed at 6-foot-3. He played his middle school basketball at Cartersville MS before taking his talents to the 5A Hurricanes. Bennett’s primary position is at the three as a small forward.

Young is one of the many seniors around the Peach State that will be looking to finish their high school career with a flourish in 2023-24. During the AAU months of spring and summer, he has sported the uniform of AE5. He may be listed at 6-foot-4, but he compliments that height with a long and effective wingspan. It is one that can deflect passes and affect the passing lanes of an opposing team. Offensively, Young knows how to put the ball through the basket with the 3-pointer or by attempting a shot a bit closer to the rim. He was two representing the 5A Bulldogs on hand at LakePoint Sports.
