It was one of the few events where division one programs could attend and evaluate in person, and boy were there tons of prospects for them to watch.
Here’s a look at part two of some of the high school and post grad standouts from the NC teams in attendance.
CJ Ohara | 6’4” CG | Combine Post Grad 2024
When it comes to college ready players in the post grad ranks, there aren’t many you’ll find quite at the level of O’Hara who both physically and skill set would be able to play at the division one level now. He’s a big guard who can get downhill and is an excellent finisher at the rim, as well as post up smaller guards and use his size to make midrange fall-aways and bully them in the paint. He handles it well enough to get to spots and create for others, he’s a good rebounder for his position and he can make shots when he’s left open too.
Orlando “Deuce” Hudson | 6’0” PG | Combine Post Grad 2024
On a team that is chock full of talent this year, Hudson is going to be an x-factor for them as he brings fantastic energy and finds a knack for making plays in many different ways. Whether it was pushing the ball in transition and finding teammates, locking up on the basketball the length of the floor or hitting the game winning shot in their win over Bishop O’Connell, it was impossible not to see the impact Hudson made. He’s quick off the bounce and attacks the defense relentlessly, and he was a big time playmaker for them throughout the event.
Erich Harding Erich Harding 6'10" | C Combine Academy PostGrad | 2024 State NC | 6’10” C | Combine Post Grad 2024
Harding has received a lot of attention from college coaches recently, as he has picked up offers throughout the fall and he showed why at the JUCO/Prep Showdown as he was efficient and productive in a number of ways. At 6’10” he’s a big body in the post with soft touch out to the midrange, and the ability to dominate the paint with his strength and energy. He’s a good rebounder particularly on the offensive end, he finished well in traffic and he brought toughness and energy in the paint.
Jamil Miller | 6’7” WF | Combine Post Grad 2024
Miller is a high upside wing who got better and better throughout the event, as he showed good versatility and will be a Swiss-army knife for Combine this year. The 6’7” wing looks the part with a great frame and he’s a good athlete to go along with it, and he has the ability to be a mismatch as he can play and guard multiple positions. He showed he can slash off the perimeter and is a good finisher at the rim, he made shots in the midrange off the pull-up and he made plays for others off the bounce too.
Brett Dent | 6’10” C | Combine Post Grad 2024
Dent was a standout we watched a lot at LC Bird High School the past few years, and watching him continue to develop in just two months at Combine makes me think whatever coach gets him is getting an absolute steal. Dent was one of the top post defenders in the entire event, as he played with great energy making the hustle plays to keep possessions alive and challenging shots in the paint. He ran the floor hard, he rebounded well on both ends and he showed his ability to finish and get to the line often.
Dylan Omweno | 6’1” CG | Combine Post Grad 2024
Omweno is going to be a key piece for Combine coming off the bench off this year, as he showed his ability to step in the game and make an immediate impact with his ability to make shots and make plays for others. He’s instant offense as he comes in confident and ready to do damage, and he can light it up from deep with effortless range out to the three-point line. He showed good wiggle off the bounce to touch the paint and he puts pressure on the defense and can score it in bunches.
Bobby Chandler | 6’6” CG | Winston Salem Post Grad 2024
Chandler is going to be a force in the Elite Prep League this year, as the 6’6” NYC native not only has great size and athleticism for his position but also has a ton of upside moving forward. He’s a dog who gets after it on both ends of the floor and is dynamic off the bounce with his quickness and ability to touch the paint at will. He’s a very good finisher when he gets downhill, he makes plays defensively and he is improving as a shot maker from all three levels.
DeJohn Blunt | 6’2” CG | Winston Salem Post Grad 2024
Our prayers go up to DJ who suffered cardiac arrest the other day and was saved by a couple of WSC students who administered CPR as the EMT’s arrived, he is apparently in good strength and recovering well. At the event, Blunt looked every bit like a division one guard who can flat out go and score it in bunches against the best of the best. He’s shifty off the bounce and gets to spots effortlessly, he can score it from all over the floor effortlessly and he has takeover ability as a scorer and a playmaker with the ball in his hands.
