The Cape-Atlantic League featured a pair of sectional winners last season and should be a competitive league once again in 2023-24. Here are the 2024 Cape-Atlantic League players to watch this season.
Bubba McNeil Bubba McNeil 5'10" | PG Middle Township | 2024 State NJ , 5’10 PG Middle Township
McNeil led the Panthers in scoring last season as he helped lead them to the South Jersey Group 2 title. The 5’10 lefty has a lightning quick release on his jumper and can knock down triples in bunches. McNeil is more than just a shooter as he can also beat his defender off the bounce and finish around the rim. He is an underrated passer and moves his feet on the defensive end. McNeil had eight 20-point games last season and should have plenty more than that in 2023-24.
Cohen Cook Cohen Cook 6'0" | PG Mainland | 2024 State NJ , 6’0 PG Mainland
Cook’s collegiate future might be on the gridiron, but he is still in line for a big senior season for the Mustangs. The 6’0 guard is at his best attacking the basket as he finishes strong around the basket and is not afraid of contact. Cook does not get rattled by on-ball pressure and finishes nicely in the mid-range. He is a strong rebounder for a guard and is an underrated defender. Cook is a tough guard prospect whose ability to finish in the paint is something that will help his stock in a big way.
Nic Johnson Nic Johnson 6'5" | SF Overbrook | 2024 State NJ , 6’5 SF Hammonton
Johnson is an intriguing prospect to watch in the 2024 class with his combination of size and skill. The 6’5 wing has a good shooting stroke as he wastes little motion and can get hot from distance in a hurry. Johnson moves well without the ball in his hands, freeing himself for open layups and jumpers in the halfcourt. He has an underrated handle and has the length to defend multiple positions on the floor. Johnson is a lanky, wing prospect whose ability to stretch the floor will help his stock throughout the winter.
Anthony Trombetta Anthony Trombetta 5'10" | SG Middle Township | 2024 State NJ , 5’10 SG Middle Township
Trombetta had a strong junior season and it should carry over into his senior season. The 5’10 guard shoots the ball with confidence from behind the arc and has a good release on his jumper. Trombetta finishes nicely around the basket and moves well without the ball in his hands. He rarely makes bad decisions with the ball in his hands and can get deflections on defense. Trombetta is a gritty, guard prospect whose ability to stretch the floor is something that will help his game in a big way this season.
Matt Kouser Matt Kouser 6'4" | SF St. Augustine | 2024 NJ , 6’4 SF St. Augustine
Kouser is poised for a breakout season as he will have the ball in his hands more on offense. The 6’4 wing has a solid handle, which he uses to get to the basket and finish. Kouser has a smooth release on his jumper and gets hot from distance in a hurry. He rips down rebounds on both ends of the floor and is an underrated defender. Kouser had two 20-point games, which is a number he should eclipse early in the 2023-24 season.
