Continue ReadingThe point guard position has seen an increase in importance in recent years and the position requires more than just being the facilitator of the team. We have players in this class who can not only pass the basketball but also score it just as well with some of the best in their class. Here are my top point guards for the 2025 class.
Williams is an electric point guard who likes to put the ball on the floor and drive to the hoop whenever he can. He will slither his way through defenses and has a soft finish around the rim using both hands. He can hang in the air longer than normal and will do some athletic finishes in the paint. Williams makes excellent reads when he draws a double team hitting his cutting teammates for open jump shots.
Mauro is a crafty guard and plays with a lot of toughness within his game. He can run the offense as well as anyone but he works even better without the ball. He knows exactly when to cut to get open shots. Mauro will come off of off-ball screens for open shots at the three-point line. He has great instincts and timing on defense on when to poke the ball free leading to many steals and fastbreak opportunities for his team.
Hidalgo is an athletic and lengthy point guard standing at 6’4″ who can do many different things on the court. Since he’s so tall he will usually have the height advantage on his matchups leading to him getting more steals. He excels in the fastbreak and likes to draw contact when going to the rim. He can play multiple positions within an offense and can also be used as a spot-up shooter on the wings to spread the offense out.
Snead Jr. is exciting and a fun guard to watch with the ball in his hands. He can do some spectacular things with the basketball especially when it comes to finishing around the rim. He uses his tight handles to get into the heart of defenses and then can seek contact or maneuver around defenders in the air to get some impressive finishes at the rim. The lefty will also look to step back and use his smooth release to knock down some three-point shots depending on what the defense gives him.
Highlights
Miller can do everything at the point guard position and can help his team in so many different ways. When controlling the offense he is patient and will wait for plays to develop before delivering the perfect pass. His midrange game is elite and can use his crafty handles to create space and hit the pull-up jumper on anyone. Miller is an excellent catch-and-shoot shooter from deep and likes to receive passes in rhythm for easier release points.
