Baylor School Head Coach Mark Price spoke with me just after lunch September 18th. He elaborated on a handful of players I asked about specifically.
“ Zane Restelli Zane Restelli 6'3" | SG Baylor School | 2025 State TN plays the game really well at all three levels. He is a really intuitive player. He can play the 1,2, and the 4 for us. He has played real minutes since he was an eighth grader. Capable of scoring, but he is a great distributer. He is learning more and more all of the time about his decision-making. I think he is going to get bigger and stronger. He has grown a little more. He is a true 6-foot-4 now. He plays with a lot of physicality. But I think his physical development continues he is going to get better and better. He can probably essentially play the point or a wing player [in college].”
“ Jack Shutters Jack Shutters 6'10" | PF Baylor School | 2024 State TN had a good summer and had a great fall. He is a younger senior. He is old enough to be a junior. The development of a big kid is always a little bit more methodical. It takes a little more time. In the last few months he is really coming into his own. Strength. Timing. Balance. He is down a few pounds in a healthy way and moving better because of that. He has gained some explosiveness which he needed to do. I am proud of where he is at right now. We all kind of coach everything, but that played at Murray State at a frontcourt player and then as a professional for 10 years. He has done good job with Jack. Tony has been really good with our frontcourt guys, but we all can work with everyone.”
“Ezra Sixto is kind of a guy that played on our JV team last year. He grew a lot really quickly, but he struggled with injuries. I had a Division I coach in here last week that said he really likes how he moves and he shoots the ball. A lot of water has to go under the bridge for him to develop, but he works hard. Working his ball-handling. He just needs to play more. He needs some varsity experience.”
“ Nyziah Whaley Nyziah Whaley 5'9" | PG Baylor School | 2024 State TN played football a year ago. He was projected to play college basketball. And he will. He has had a lot of recruiting interest. He will be one of our top two players on this year’s team. He has a lot of versatility in the backcourt. He is absolutely the quickest kid on our team. He finishes around the rim really well. He has the competitiveness quotient and he is going to make a college really good. He practices hard every day. They feed off of him. He is having a really good fall, working hard. Shooting a lot of balls. He has had a lot of coaches in to see him this fall. He had a really good summer with that STARS program. I am excited for him, not just this year but also for what he can do for a college program.”
“Cameron Sparks, a top 100 football player, is a great basketball player. Really good defensive player.”
