Continue ReadingThe high school season is still a few months away but with team workouts starting to take place, it is the perfect time to start previewing the season. In this series, we will be a look at some quick hitters, the top player, potential breakout player, other roster roster members and notable games of the upcoming season. For today’s spotlight, we take a look at the Guerin Catholic Golden Eagles.
Quick Hitters
- Finished 20-9 last season
- Lost to NorthWood in Class 3A State Finals in OT
- Bob Allen returns for 6th season as head coach. 139-117 record in 12 years of coaching.
Top Player: Dylan Murans Dylan Murans 6'7" | SF Guerin Catholic | 2024 State IN
Due to what Murans brings on the floor for Guerin Catholic, he is the top returning player for the Golden Eagles. For his size and skill level, Murans is one of the more versatile wings in the state and in my opinion has shown some major improvements this summer. The improvements that I have seen mainly come from his increased strength and physicality which has helped take his game to that next level. He is the anchor of this golden Eagles team and will be a difference maker for them.
Potential Breakout Player (s): Robert Sorensen Robert Sorensen 6'0" | PG Guerin Catholic | 2024 State IN / Jack Cherry Jack Cherry 6'1" | PG Guerin Catholic | 2024 State IN
This is the first time in this series where I have had two players make the potential breakout list, but both Sorensen and Cherry both have that upside. Both are guards that can play on or off the ball at a constant rate and each have a great motor. Sorensen comes into this season after averaging 14.4 points per game a year ago while Cherry will be back to play that ‘glue-man’ role that he does real well. Both are excellent compliments to Murans.
Other Important Roster Members
- Bryson Cardinal Bryson Cardinal 6'6" | PF Guerin Catholic | 2025 State IN – The 6’5″ junior wing is another player that would not surprise me in having a breakout season. Versatile player that finishes at a high level around the basket, has great footwork, and rebounds his area well.
- Brady Lucchesi Brady Lucchesi 5'9" | PF Guerin Catholic | 2026 IN – Another player that could see time at the varsity level os Lucchesi. Shorter lead guard with a high IQ.
Notable Games (Confirmed)
- vs Heritage Hills (Southport Tipoff) (12/9)
- Lawrenceburg Tournament (12/29)
- at Bishop Chatard (12/5)
- at Brebeuf Jesuit (1/19)
- at Noblesville (1/27)
