PH Scouts were in attendance to note any standouts from the event for our readers and coaches to evaluate. Let’s get into some of the top guard prospects from the PH Freshman Showcase.
Miles Morrell | G | Class of 2027 | Victory Christian | @MilesMorrell0 | AAU: TMac Spartans 2026
One of the true floor general prospects to attend the event was the rising VCA product, Miles Morrell. A real point guard that worked well with his teammates throughout the tournament. Morrell was also a sniper from behind the arc while directing screen and roll sets to open up the floor. He showed grit on Sunday and the potential to develop into a reliable play-caller at the varsity level.
Marcus Nestor | G | Class of 2027 | Port Charlotte | @Mnest08 | AAU: TreMann Elite OT
Nestor was another solid point guard prospect that had a good day at the Freshman Showcase. What stood out first was the confidence to take tough shots from the perimeter. He also started hitting mid-range jumpers mixed in with some nice floaters. As noted in our watch list preview, the rising 2027 prospect picked up a couple of offers during the off-season from Kennesaw State, and Chattahoochee Valley College. Nestor joins a few other rising guards at Port Charlotte which makes things interesting for the Pirates this fall season.
Gustavo Roca | CG | Class of 2027 | Windermere Prep | @_Gustavo_Roca | AAU: 1Family
Roca was one of the better overall rising guard prospects to attend the PH Freshman Showcase on Sunday. His ability to light it up behind the arc while providing good intensity on the defensive end was noted from early on. Roca has a good frame at 6-foot-3 and was effective in various aspects. The sneaky handles and ISO moves were surprising combined with the consistent shooting performance earned his name as a top standout. Holds D1 offers from New Mexico State and Stetson but expect an uptick in interest as the fall season approaches.
Isaiah Lawson | G | Class of 2027 | Hallandale | @isaiahlawson_ | AAU: TEAM PR1ME
Lawson displayed good body control to finish tough layups at the rim and kept his eyes open to find plays for his teammates, good enough to earn his name on the list. Impressed with the midrange game and the intensity on the defensive end.
Josiah Manrow | CG | Class of 2027 | Seffner Christian Academy | @JosiahManrow
Manrow was another solid all-around guard that had a good offensive game. He can shoot consistently behind the arc or make it happen by getting to the basket with slick dribbling moves. A well-rounded athlete that can get to his spots and connect from mid-range or the perimeter.
DJ Alderman | PG | Class of 2027 | Hilliard Middle Senior | @dennisalderman2 | AAU: Hilliard Heat
Alderman has sneaky good handles and speed to either blow by defenders or create space for jump shots. Came away impressed with his toughness and potential to be a reliable floor general at the varsity level. The rising 2027 point guard prospect has plenty of time to fill out his frame and develop his bag to be effective on both ends.
