Best of West River: 2024’s
Jackson Schauer Jackson Schauer 6'1" | CG Faith | 2024 State SD |6’1 G| Faith
He was instrumental in the Longhorns 23 win season and State Tournament run. The scary thing is, the Longhorns bring back a talented team and they could be even better this coming season. “Schauer the SNIPER” was All-State in his jr. season and averaged 20.8 ppg, 5 rpg, 4.2 apg, 3 rpg, and shot a hot 44 3FG%. This summer in AAU, Schauer proved that he is a lethal shooter. Jackson is a southpaw and easily one of the best 3-point shooters in the state. He is also a nice athlete with impressive hops. Schauer and Selby are going to be a scary two-headed monster in class B. PHD is expecting the Longhorns and Schauer to dominate in the 2023-24 season!
Nic Marshall Nic Marshall 6'1" | PG White River | 2024 State SD |6’1 G| White River
He helped lead the Tigers to State last season and odds are, White River will be back again this year. Marshall was All-State in his junior season and averaged 17.8 ppg, 4 rpg, 5.3 apg, and 3.2 spg. With Joe Sayler graduating and moving on to SDSU, Marshall’s point production should increase this coming season. Nic had a quality AAU campaign and proved once again that he is a playmaker with the ball in his hands. Nic’s defense improved this off-season. The super-skilled Marshall will be one of the top PG’s in SD and a player that needs to be near the top of your watchlist come early December!
Seth Hamilton Seth Hamilton 6'2" | SG Spearfish | 2024 State SD |6’1 G| Spearfish
He had a breakout junior season with 16 ppg, 6 rpg, and 2 apg. Hamilton was also impressive throughout the AAU season, he was recently named to the All-Tournament at the Hard Work Region Finals. Seth is super athletic and as tough as they come. He slashes like a freight train and contact does not slow him down. Seth is an athletic and powerful finisher at the rim. He is deadly with his pull-up J from deep and mid-range. Hamilton can also lock up on the defensive end. Look for the Spartan to score plenty of points, create for others, and to be a dawg on D in his senior season.
Caden Selby Caden Selby 6'7" | SF Faith | 2024 State SD |6’7 F| Faith
He helped the Longhorns get to State last year and he scored in double figures on the regular. Selby shot close to 40% from beyond the arc! A consistent three-point shooter that is 6′”7, you have to love that! Caden finished the year on a high note, he had some impressive performances at the State Tournament. I doubt that there will not be many players in class B that can match up with Caden this winter. Faith might have the best 1-2 punch in class B, Jackson Schauer Jackson Schauer 6'1" | CG Faith | 2024 State SD & Caden Selby Caden Selby 6'7" | SF Faith | 2024 State SD . Those two should score plenty of points, the Longhorns will win many games, and the Schauer & Selby show will be raining 3’s!
Jordan Uhlir Jordan Uhlir 6'6" | PF White River | 2024 State SD |6’6 PF| St. Thomas More
He is a tough BIG man with size & strength. Uhlir is disciplined, but that comes as no surprise when you consider who his head coach is. Jordan can score on the block, via the slash, and with his jump shot. Uhlir is a stout defender and a beast on the boards. With Caleb Hollenbeck graduating, STM will need Uhlir to up his scoring and that should not be a problem. He is wiry-strong and will be able to score inside and out.
Jet Janvrin Jet Janvrin 6'0" | PG Rapid City Central | 2024 State SD |6’0 G| Rapid City Central
He will be the man for the Cobblers this year. Central lost their BIG man, so Jet will have to increase his scoring production. Coach TJ Hay, will certainly give the keys to the offense to Mr. Janvrin! Jet had an excellent off-season/AAU campaign. He is a gym rat that is always working on his craft. Janvrin is an old-school PG that can run the offense but he also has new-age skills. He facilitates/creates, can also put up points with his pull-up game and at-the-rim scoring. Janvrin should be one of the top PG’s in SD this season. Wait until you watch him play, you will love his skill and unselfishness.
Bryce Westby Bryce Westby 6'5" | PF Phillip | 2024 State SD |6’5 PF| Phillip
First of all, the Scotties might be the best/most unique mascot in the Midwest, PHD loves it! Phillip finished the season with a 17-5 record last season. The Scotties lost some nice talent to graduation but they will still be a solid squad this coming season. Westby should see a boost in his production/numbers and he should be a walking double-double. Bryce is a physical player on both offense and defense and he provides a legit post presence for the Scotties. Westby can also cash in the outside jump shot. His rebounding and interior defense will be what sets him apart. Look for Bryce to have a strong season, put up some gaudy numbers, and be in the discussion for an All-State selection!
Shun-Zi White Woman Shun-Zi White Woman 6'5" | PF Rapid City Stevens | 2024 State SD |6’5 PF| Rapid City Stevens
He had a quality junior season at Central with 10.8 ppg, 5.1 rpg, 1.3 apg, and shot 48.1 FG%. Shun-Zi does the majority of damage in the paint but he can hit the occasional triple, he shot 37.5 3FG% last season. He will be new at Stevens this year and the Raiders will be loaded with talent! That was a big hit to the Cobblers but now the Raiders will be a scary squad. Shun-zi is a big-bodied player but much more athletic than he looks. He is talented with his back to the basket and can be lethal from 12-15 feet with his jump shot. His 3-point shooting has improved, this summer at the SD Tech Team Camp, he knocked down four triples in a single game. Stevens has legit weapons, if they want to be successful, they will need serious production from Shun-Zi White Woman Shun-Zi White Woman 6'5" | PF Rapid City Stevens | 2024 State SD . Expect that to happen!
Erick Jorgensen Erick Jorgensen 6'7" | C Hill City | 2024 State SD |6’7 C| Hill City
9-12 last season, Hill City will be an improved team. The Rangers will have a tough inside-out game that will give opponents headaches. Devin Buehler Devin Buehler 5'11" | CG Hill City | 2025 State SD and Erick Jorgensen Erick Jorgensen 6'7" | C Hill City | 2024 State SD will be a dynamic duo! The 6’7″ Jorgensen is a gifted athlete with impressive mobility, he protects the rim, passes well, and he can stretch the floor for triples. When Erik gets room and he sets his feet, he can really shoot it. As a defender, his athleticism and length allow him to alter and affect many shots. Opposing teams will certainly have to gameplan around Mr. Jorgensen. Look for a big senior season from Erick and the Rangers!
Jason Fisher Jason Fisher 6'5" | PF Douglas | 2024 State SD (2024) |6’5 F| Douglas
He was new to Douglas last season and Fisher had a very productive year out west. Jason is a tough and physical player that can get the job done inside and he can shoot the lights out from mid-range. Fisher is a talented defender and a standout shot blocker/rim-protector. He has a pretty jump shot that appears to be effortless. PHD is expecting Jason to be the top player for the Patriots this coming season. Last week at the SD Teach Team Camp, Jason had some monster scoring games and he blocked multiple shots off the backboard. Wait until you see his mid-range J, it has to be one of the best west of the Missouri. Jason Fisher Jason Fisher 6'5" | PF Douglas | 2024 State SD is one the Best of West River and a player to watch in 2023-24!
