The Big Interview: Rocco Lamuno
Thursday just before lunch I talked with Rocco Lamuno Rocco Lamuno 6'3" | SG Ravenwood | 2024 State TN (Ravenwood). He is destined to have a monstrous senior season, but not an isolated one. His team is filled with seniors and many of them have played together for years. What can they accomplish? Meet Rocco Lamuno Rocco Lamuno 6'3" | SG Ravenwood | 2024 State TN .
What do you see your life like at 30 years old?
I don’t know. That is a tough question. I don’t know. Can I think about it?
Do you have any relatives that played high school or college sports?
My brother. My older brother plays at Motlow State.
Andrew? Is this his second year there?
Yes.
What does he think of it?
He likes the coaching there.
How good can this Ravenwood team be?
I think our chemistry is really good this year. We have like 8 seniors and everybody on this team likes each other. They bond together. I think we bond with the coaches too. We wouldn’t be complete without them.
I saw your coach, Coach Whitlock just posted on Twitter that his sister just passed away?
Yeah. I talked to him about it. Our team is probably going to do something for him.
What is your personal goal for this upcoming basketball season?
My personal goal…I just want to…to contribute to my team to make it far and possibly make history for our team. For Ravenwood. And contribute to that. My older brother, the senior team made it to Sectional Game, the furthest that the program has ever gone, and I am hoping to exceed that.
Did you play any other sports growing up?
I played football and baseball when I was really young. I ended up stopping those around aged 10.
Are you two years younger than Andrew?
Yes.
Have you ever beat him in 1-on-1?
Yes [giggling].
Do you remember the first time?
It was definitely recent. [giggling] When I am beating him he just backs me down. I would say it was last year.
What was his reaction?
He doesn’t think I can beat him, but I have beaten him before.
Favorite musical artist right now.
Drake.
Last movie you saw in a theater.
I haven’t been to the theater in a minute.
Me neither.
Smile. That one movie, Smile. The scary one.
Do you think basketball players need a trainer outside of school? Do you have one, some?
Uh, I wouldn’t say that. I think we can use each other to get better. Playing open gyms and pushing each other. I wouldn’t say a trainer is needed, but I am not saying they wouldn’t help though.
What was your biggest frustration a year ago related to recruiting or AAU or high school basketball? For younger guys to realize they are not alone, perhaps.
A year ago I was, it is tough seeing other people getting offers and scholarships on Twitter, but you just have to wait and see how it will turn out. Once you get the exposure it starts coming to you. You don’t need to worry about other people and what their recruiting is. Just focus on you.
Thank you for your time.
Thank you.
