Continue ReadingWith the final live period of the summer coming to an end, we thought it would be a good time to take a look at some of the prospects who have seen their recruitment pick up the most. We will take a look at those prospects who have picked up division offers so far this summer, and a little about their game. Here’s a look at part two of the 2024 MD prospects who have new schools recruiting them this summer.
Martin Somerville | 6’1” CG | Bishop McNamara
Prep Hoops MD Ranking: #12
Spring/Summer Offers: Holy Cross, Albany, Loyola (MD), Buckenll, William & Mary, UNCG, Brown, St. Louis, San Jose State, Dartmouth, UMass Lowell, Fairfield, George Mason, South Alabama
Sommerville absolutely blew up this summer playing with DC Premier on the UAA Circuit as well as his Bishop McNamara team at DMV Live, as he’s picked up double digit offers from schools all over the country. The 6’1” combo guard is the one of the most talented shot makers in the DMV as the lefty has great form with deep range off the catch, he can create space and make contested shots from the midrange and from deep and he gets to the rim where he can draw contact and get to the line or finish over bigger defenders. With his array of schools to choose from, it will be interesting to see if he looks to go somewhere that he can be a go to guy early or if he’ll look to go bigger to a school where he can learn and play in a bigger conference.
Kris Johnson Kris Johnson 6'4" | SG Grace Brethren Christian (MD) | 2024 State #288 Nation MD | 6’4” CG | Grace Brethren
Prep Hoops MD Ranking: #13
Spring/Summer Offers: Towson, Norfolk State, Iona, Mount St. Mary’s, UMass Lowell
Johnson has been a favorite of mine for the past few years in the DMV, as he is coming off a junior season where he took a big leap and this summer it has paid off as he’s picked up multiple division one offers running with New World on the 3SSB Circuit. The 6’4” combo guard makes an impact in so many different ways as he’s a downhill attacker who can finish through contact and at the rim, he can make shots off the catch from deep and he’s a competitor on both ends that plays with a high motor and makes plays on the defensive end. He’s the type of player who will make teams regret not recruiting him when they have to play him as he will simply find ways to be productive and get on the court.
Tyler Boston Tyler Boston 5'10" | PG Bullis | 2024 State #291 Nation MD | 5’11” PG | Bullis
Prep Hoops MD Ranking: #15
Spring/Summer Offers: Holy Cross, Fairfield, Fordham, ETSU, Mount St. Mary’s, Delaware State, Merrimack, Robert Morris, Penn
Boston has been great for Bullis throughout his career and while he had a good summer running with Team Thrill that was one of the best teams in the country, it was really his performance at DMV Live that saw his recruitment take off with double digit offers through the two sessions. He’s a true floor general who is deadly in the pick-and-roll as he makes fantastic reads when he turns the corner and whether it’s keeping a defender on the hip or splitting a trap he can probe the defense, he can really shoot it from deep both off the catch and off the bounce and he is a crafty finisher when he gets downhill too. He’s the type of player that will be able to come in and pick up a system very quickly, and when put around other talented players like he has been the past few years he will find ways to make your team better.
Brendan Johnson Brendan Johnson 6'4" | SG Calvert Hall | 2024 State MD | 6’4” SG | Calvert Hall
Prep Hoops MD Ranking: #18
Spring/Summer Offers: Nicholls State
Nicholls State has really attacked the DMV by offering quite a few kids, and they did their homework with their offer to Johnson who is one of the more underrated players in the Baltimore area. At 6’4” he has fantastic size for his position and he can score the basketball in a number of different ways, he makes shots from deep consistently, he gets downhill and finishes well and he can get hot quickly and fill it up in bunches. He’s a player that more schools should take the opportunity to go and evaluate, as he has great tools and still has his best basketball ahead of him.
Emmanuel Okitondo Emmanuel Okitondo 6'8" | PF Combine Academy | 2024 State NC | 6’8” PF | Jackson-Reed
Prep Hoops MD Ranking: #20
Spring/Summer Offers: St. Louis
Okitondo is the type of player that baffles me that he doesn’t have more offers, but St. Louis was smart to watch him on the EYBL Circuit and at DC Live and see that he has a lot of upside moving forward and it’s starting to come together. He’s a versatile forward who has good size and moves very well for his position as he gets up and down the floor and can play above the rim in transition, he has solid ball skills with the ability to put it on the deck and has improved a lot in that area and he has huge upside defensively with his ability to guard multiple positions. He’s the type of player that in a few years I believe will look like an absolute steal wherever he ends up at.
Goap Kodi Goap Kodi 6'10" | C Georgetown Prep | 2024 State MD | 6’10” C | Georgetown Prep
Prep Hoops MD Ranking: #22
Spring/Summer Offers: Loyola
Kodi is another player that looks like he could be a steal when it’s all said and done, as his recruitment didn’t take off the way I expected and he still has so much upside moving forward. Loyola did a good job evaluating him as he has good size and probably just finished growing if he’s not still growing, he protects the rim and rebounds at a high level, he has soft touch around the rim and he moves well when he runs the floor and has to switch defensively. He’s shown good strides already in high school and he will likely take another leap when he gets in a college system and weight room.
Kingston Price | 6’1” PG | Severn
Prep Hoops MD Ranking: #31
Spring/Summer Offers: Coastal Carolina
Price may not pass the looks test, but the way he’s played this summer with New World and his performance with Severn at the DMV Live sessions earned him an offer from Coastal and makes me think he should have more local schools recruiting him too. Price is a very talented shot maker that has effortless range and can step into shots off the bounce, he moves well off the ball and is a knock down shooter off the catch, he is shifty off the bounce and can touch the paint and he showed his ability to play in different roles on the two teams.
Andrew Dixon Andrew Dixon 6'1" | PG Mt. Carmel | 2024 State MD | 6’0” PG | Mount Carmel
Prep Hoops MD Ranking: #34
Spring/Summer Offers: Nicholls State
Dixon is another player that Nicholls offered as they target the DMV and Baltimore area, and he’s another one that is a good evaluation by them as he plays the right way and gets the job done on a regular basis and against high level competition. He has fantastic feel with the ball both in transition and in the pick-and-roll, he’s shifty and touches the paint regularly where he’s deadly with the floater and makes plays for others and he’s a good on ball defender too.
Tremayne Hawkins Tremayne Hawkins 6'7" | PF Grace Brethren | 2024 State MD | 6’7” PF | Grace Brethren
Prep Hoops MD Ranking: #37
Spring/Summer Offers: LIU
Hawkins is about as under the radar as they come, as he’s been one of the most productive and consistent players I’ve seen both with Truth DC and with Grace Brethren. He picked up his offer from LIU in April when he was dominant in Pittsburgh showing his high motor on both ends of the floor, his ability to clear out space and finish, his soft touch out to 18 feet and his willingness to do the dirty work and dominate on the glass as well.
Jordan Brathwaite Jordan Brathwaite 6'3" | SG Mount St. Joseph | 2024 State MD | 6’3” WG | Mount St. Joseph’s
Prep Hoops MD Ranking: #46
Spring/Summer Offers: Bucknell, Albany, Towson, Nicholls State, William & Mary, Drexel, American, Brown, Howard, NC A&T, Mount St. Mary’s, Harvard
Brathwaite absolutely blew up during the DMV Live sessions in his first appearance with Mount St. Joe’s who sported a roster full of division one players and played the best of the best competition, and he showed out against that competition. He’s a tough kid who competes on both ends of the floor and is a very good defender, he shoots the ball very well from deep and moves well off the ball to get open, he’s a strong downhill attacker who can finish through traffic and he is a very smart player who plays the game the right way. The fact that he’s a high academic kid has also opened up his recruitment, as he’s seen Ivy’s and other high academic schools pursue him this summer too.
