We will take a look at those prospects who have picked up division offers so far this summer, and a little about their game. Here’s a look at part one of the VA prospects who have new schools recruiting them this summer.
Patrick Ngongba | 6’10” C | Paul VI
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #1
Spring/Summer Offers: Notre Dame, Syracuse, Indiana, UConn, VT, Duke, Mississippi State, Providence, Michigan, Kansas, Kentucky
Ngonba has seen his stock soar nationally as much as anyone this spring and summer, as he was already a nationally ranked player and now is being highly touted by blue bloods and schools at the highest level. He already held an impressive list of offers before he went ahead and dominated the EYBL this summer, and he helped lead them to Peach Jam Championship. The 6’10” big man has great hands and touch around the rim, he’s improved his ability to stretch the floor and he’s dominated the paint on both ends of the floor. He’s taken visits to Kansas State, Providence, Duke and UConn and is still receiving offers on a daily basis.
Isaiah Abraham Isaiah Abraham 6'7" | SG Paul VI | 2024 State #62 Nation VA : 6’7” SG | Paul VI
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #3
Spring/Summer Offers: Providence, Mississippi State
Ngongba’s cousin and another nationally ranked recruit with a litany of offers from all over the country, Abraham has been another big reason for Takeover’s run to the Peach Jam Finals. He’s a top tier athlete who plays with great energy and can make plays above the rim others simply can’t, he can impact the game across the board whether he’s scoring or not, he’s improved his ball skills tremendously and he checks all the boxes physically and athletically. He recently named a final four of Marquette, Virginia Tech, UConn and Providence, and will be one of five PVI seniors to head to a division one school next year.
Micah Robinson | 6’6” SF | Oak Hill Academy
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #4
Spring/Summer Offers: George Mason, VT, Cal
Robinson had a big junior season in the NIBC with Oak Hill, and he’s continued that strong play throughout the spring and summer with Southern Assault on the Adidas 3SSB Circuit. He looks the part as much as anyone as he has a basketball frame with long arms and a frame that should fill out nicely, he is a two way impact player who fills the stat sheet across the board, he can put it on the deck and get downhill where he has great footwork and finishing ability through traffic and he’s a good rebounder as well. He recently named a top 8 of Mississippi State, Alabama, TCU, Cal, Texas Tech, LSU, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech.
Garrett Sundra Garrett Sundra 6'11" | C Paul VI | 2024 State #148 Nation VA | 6’11” PF | Paul VI
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #8
Spring/Summer Offers: Villanova, Providence, Notre Dame
Sundra has been the ultimate glue guy for a PVI team that has been one of the top teams in the country over the past few years, and his all-around versatility as well as his blend of size and athleticism will have him competing for early minutes wherever he chooses. The 6’11” forward is long and athletic with the ability to run the floor and finish above the rim, he’s a good shooter as a trailer and on pick-and-pops, he plays with a great motor and does the dirty work and he can switch and guard multiple positions. He recently named a top five of Virginia Tech, Providence, Miami, Butler and Notre Dame.
Troy McKoy Troy McKoy 6'4" | SG Cushing Academy (MA) | 2024 #200 Nation NLG | 6’5” SG | Massanutten
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #9
Spring/Summer Offers: Mount St. Mary’s, SC State, Sacred Heart
There may not be a single player on the east coast who is more under recruited than McKoy, who has been a standout for Massanutten on the national post grad scene the last two seasons playing up against older players. At 6’5” McKoy is a big guard with a strong frame who can get downhill and play through traffic, he gets to the line often and gets easy points, he can score the ball from deep off the catch and off the bounce, he fights for rebounds and loose balls and he’s a very good defender as well. He’s picked up three offers so far this summer, but he could see his stock boost more when colleges go to visit prep schools in the fall.
Teyvien Barbour Teyvien Barbour 6'5" | SG Patriot (VA) | 2024 State #298 Nation VA | 6’5” SG | Patriot
Prep Hoops VA Ranking: #12
Spring/Summer Offers: American
While Barbour has only picked up American this spring and summer, he already holds an impressive list of offers and he continues to show this summer that he’s one of the top shooters in the state. At 6’5” he has great positional size and he moves off the ball extremely well with the ability to set his feet quickly and let it fly, he has effortless range and a quick release, he can put it on the deck and attack closeouts and he has great confidence in his shooting ability. He holds other offers from George Mason, Bryant, NJIT and UMass Lowell.
