Continue ReadingAAU returned to Las Vegas for the first live period since before Covid happened, and there were multiple big time tournaments featuring some of the top teams from across the country. It was the perfect setting for the hundreds of college coaches in attendance and scouts that made the trip, as we got to see the top talent in the country.
Here’s a look at part two of some of the standouts that I saw from the DMV teams.
Tyler Jackson Tyler Jackson 6'2" | CG St. Frances | 2025 #40 Nation MD | 6’2” CG | Team Thrill 2025
Jackson’s addition to an already stacked Thrill team just put them over the top as they ran the table for the Sport Radar championship and had some big wins in showcase games as well. The 6’2” combo is a naturally gifted scorer who showed his ability to create space off the bounce and make tough shots from deep, he showed good burst and the ability to change speeds to get in the lane and finished well through traffic and with other talented players he got a lot of one-on-one situations where he’s very difficult to guard.
Khani Rooths | 6’7” WF | New World 2024
Rooths had a good showing with IMG as a junior, and his ascend to being one of the top players in the country continued this summer and he put a stamp on it in Vegas. The 6’7” wing has played through injuries all summer and still balled out as he showed his improvement off the bounce with good change of direction and downhill attacking, he played above the rim every chance he got, he made plays for others and he was an impact on both ends of the floor.
Kingston Price Kingston Price 6'1" | PG Severn | 2024 State MD | 6’1” PG | New World 2024
Price has started to see his recruitment pick up over the past month or so, and the way he played in Vegas had a lot to do with that I believe as he was lights out throughout the weekend and stepped up as one of New World’s best shot makers. He played both on and off the ball and either way he found ways to get open, he showed a quick release and deep range, he was statistically one of the best shooters from deep in the Sport Radar tournament and he made plays off the bounce for others too.
Ty Bevins Ty Bevins 6'5" | SG Gwynn Park | 2024 State #157 Nation MD | 6’5” CG | New World 2024
Bevins is one of the better all-around combo guards you’ll find in the DMV, and he showed the entire repertoire for New World as he made plays across the board for his team. At 6’5” he has great size for his position and it allows him to see over defenders and deliver passes most can’t make, he has great feel and IQ on both ends of the floor and he’s able to pick his spots and score it efficiently from multiple levels too.
Kris Johnson Kris Johnson 6'4" | SG Grace Brethren Christian (MD) | 2024 State #288 Nation MD | 6’4” CG | New World 2024
Johnson is another player on this New World group that has seen his stock raise in recruitment over the past month or so, and he’s the ultimate glue guy that just impacts winning in so many different ways. He’s an all-out high energy guy who defends and rebounds very well for his position, he can get downhill where he’s a very good finisher in traffic, he makes shots from deep and he’ll do all the little things to help his team win.
