All of the games will be played at one venue, Wayzata High School. Which team/players should you watch in the 17U division from the Dakotas? PHD has that info for you!
This will likely be the last grassroots/AAU tournaments that these guys ever play in, let’s hope they go out with a memorable performance!
Read below for comments on TEN players that you will want to see this weekend!
Watchlist
Alpha Camara Alpha Camara 6'5" | SF Fargo Davies | 2024 State ND (2024) |6’5 F| Bears Tail 2024
WHY? He is very long and he always works hard on the boards. It is not easy to box Camara out, he is active, mobile, and he has springs in his legs. If you do get a body on Alpha, there is a good chance he will simply elevate and grab the rock over your head. Camara can slash to the rack for points and his 15-foot jumper looks to be improving. He will dunk in traffic and if he is on a breakaway, look out, and get the camera ready!
Andre’ Austin Andre’ Austin 6'3" | CG Bismarck | 2025 State #388 Nation ND (2025) |6’3 G| Pack 2024
WHY? He has played up an age group all season long and he continues to impress. Austin has been a Top Performer on multiple occasions during the Prep Hoops Circuit this spring & summer. At 6’3″ and athletic, Austin is a tough matchup for most guards. He is an aggressive slasher, a dynamic finisher, and a full-court playmaker. Expect Dre’ to be one of the top PG’s at the event.
Erick Paye Erick Paye 6'5" | PF Grand Forks Central | 2024 ND (2024) |6’5 PF| Bears Tail 2024
WHY? He has committed to UND for football but that does not stop Mr. Competitive! Erick is a bully on the block, he will out-muscle his defender on the way to the rim for power finishes. He dunks/slams on the regular. Often times, it looks like Paye is angry at the ball or the rim because him slams it home so hard. He rebounds like a workhorse, creates TO’s, and sprints the floor. Expect the BIG GFC Knight to go out with a bang at the Takedown!
Isiah Dow-Hilliard (2024) |6’4 G/F| Pack 2024
WHY? I watched him a couple weeks ago and Isiah is even better than advertised. He is long at 6’4″ and his wingspan is expansive. He plays will a good feel for the game and he is an exceptional athlete. His jumper is accurate from mid and long range. On D, Isiah can take care of guards and his length allows him to compete with BIGs around the hoop. I am looking forward to seeing this Cardinal play hoops one more time this summer.
John Angau John Angau 6'4" | SG West Fargo Sheyenne | 2024 State ND (2024) |6’3 G| Bears Tail 2024
WHY? This Mustang oozes potential. I have watched Angau a handful over times over the last year and he is an intriguing talent. John has an easy-flowing jump shot and he can fill-it-up from deep. If defenders leave him alone from college or NBA range, they will likely pay the price 3 points at a time. His length and mobility make him standout from other guards. The Mustang can also get up and finish above the rim in impressive fashion. Will Angau show out and be one of the best wings at the event?
Justin Zulu Justin Zulu 5'11" | CG Fargo South | 2024 State ND (2024) |5’10 G| BTG 2024
WHY? He is a gifted multi-sport athlete. When we say that Zulu has “sprinter speed”, we mean it. Justin is one of the fastest runners in the state of North Dakota! I am excited to see him in transition at Wayzata. Defenders will have fun trying to keep up with this burner. Besides being speedy fast up and down the court, Zulu is a quick slasher in the halfcourt. I am interested to see what his jump shot looks like and how he plays on D.
Leng Akol (2024) |6’3 G| BTG 2024
WHY? He is a spark plug on the hardwood. Akol is is active without the ball and he makes smart and easy passes with the rock is in his hands. Leng is a nice shooter with a high release. Pressure does not seem to bother Akol, he can still get his points. He has often been in double-digits for BTG, Leng recently had a 22-point game. I am excited to see him ball-out tomorrow.
Luke Means (2025) |5’7 G| Pack 2024
WHY? He will not be the tallest player on the court but he can change the game with his shooting stroke. Means is a serious shooter that defenses will have to account for. I expect Luke to have one of the quickest triggers/releases at the Takedown.
Reggie Criss Reggie Criss 5'11" | CG Fargo North | 2024 ND (2024) |5’11 G| BTG 2024
WHY? He is an all-around talented player. Reggie’s athleticism is absolutely ridiculous. Wait until watch see him, you will be impressed! Criss is a high-speed player, he gets up and down the court like he is shot out of a cannon. I have heard people compare Reggie’s speed to the Zulu twins. I am thrilled to see what Criss can do at the Twin Cities Takedown.
Wylee Delorme Wylee Delorme 6'5" | SG Devils Lake | 2024 State ND (2024) |6’5 G| Bears Tail 2024
WHY? He recently committed to the University of Mary. Big shoutout to Mr. Delorme! This Firebird is sure to put on a show. Wylee scores points fast and furious. He plays full speed all the time, is frenetically attacking, and he can pour it in from every level. Delorme can also make plays on defense as a ballhawk and he is no stranger to erasing shots. Will he still play with a killer-instinct now that he is committed? I certainly expect that to be the case!
