At this point in the calendar, we tend to see several rising seniors set official visits, cut their college lists or even announce their commitments. For this version of the DMV Recruiting notebook, we’ll focus on those rising seniors who have made headlines in the past few weeks.
Harvard strikes again
Teyvien Barbour Teyvien Barbour 6'5" | SG Patriot (VA) | 2024 State #298 Nation VA made his college commitment to Harvard, becoming the third DMV prospect in the last eight months to commit to head coach Tommy Amaker. The 2023 duo of Malik Mack and Thomas Batties have joined the program this summer in preparation for their freshmen seasons and more DMV flavor is on the way next fall with Barbour. Playing for DC Premier on the UAA Circuit, Barbour proved himself as a confident shot-maker who projects as a productive off-ball guard on both ends of the floor in time. His ability to stretch the floor will be key to their success in competing for the Ivy League title and yet another NCAA Tournament appearance for years to come.
Bevins being prioritized
2024 Gwynn Park/New World guard Ty Bevins Ty Bevins 6'5" | SG Gwynn Park | 2024 State #157 Nation MD had himself a productive spring and early summer. While A-10 programs were already invested heavily in him as a prospect, Bevins proving himself in different environments throughout the last four months only helped his case. Iona head coach Tobin Anderson set aside time to watch Bevins at DC Live and immediately got involved. Bevins has scheduled an unofficial visit to Iona for June 29. He’ll plan to return to Iona at a later date for an official visit and is in the process of setting up the same with George Washington and Hampton. Hofstra and George Mason are the other two programs that are prioritizing the 6-foot-6 guard.
Price earns offer from Wagner
2024 Severn/New World point guard Kingston Price Kingston Price 6'1" | PG Severn | 2024 State MD Jr. received an offer from Wagner this week. This accounts as his second Division I offer along with Coastal Carolina. Price put his name on the radar with his production throughout DMV Live play, proving himself as a tough-nosed lead guard who can score it with efficiency, set the table in a half court setting and play with pride on the defensive end of the floor. I’d expect visits to be set in the future with both programs that have offered, but would urge more LM programs to do their due diligence with Price if a point guard in a necessity for the 2024 recruiting board.
Omarion Reid makes his decision
Believe it or not, there are still a fair amount of 2023 prospects still making their college decisions. One of the most productive bigs in the Baltimore Metro area last season in Mt. Carmel’s Omarion Reid announced his commitment to the University of District Columbia. The 6-foot-6 bully should have an opportunity to come in and produce immediately for the Firebirds with his ability to score around the rim and control the glass while using his strong frame. UDC assistant coach William West continues to flex his DMV and Baltimore connections to bring life to a program that is on the up-and-up.
