Xavier Simpson
Xavier Simpson
Xavier immediately caught my attention with his composure and excellent court vision. When caught in a trap, he’d simply find the open man while staying calm and collected. I didn’t see him throw one bad pass and he had a lot of court time. He displayed a lightning-quick first step while driving to the basket and took his open shots with no hesitation. He can also sink the three ball and I loved seeing how aggressive he was on the boards. Many scorers will be happy filling in the stat sheet with merely points – not the case for Simpson. Massive triple-double potential.
Christian Garcia
Christian Garcia
Christian was impressive with how seamlessly he worked in the pick and roll. He stood out as the best bounce passer I saw all weekend. His speed was next level and he wasn’t afraid to drive coast to coast, which was fun to watch. He showed tremendous leadership by constantly communicating with his team and encouraging his teammates. My favorite play I saw from him was actually off a turnover he committed. Instead of hanging his head, he sprinted back on defense and made sure his man had to earn his points from the charity strike.
Caylin Webster
Caylin Webster
Caylin was absolutely fearless on the court. He would drive full-speed at his defender, even in cases where they had a substantial amount of size on him. A huge strength of his was moving without the ball. He seemed to make the right cuts to the basket every time, resulting in plenty of high-percentage opportunities in the paint despite his 5’5″ frame. He consistently asked for the ball, showed no hesitation when he was open, and displayed a swift spin move when driving to the hoop. He was able to rack up several points from the free throw line by staying aggressive throughout the tournament.
Raymond Martin
Raymond Martin
Raymond showed grit and hustle throughout his minutes by seemingly sprinting everywhere on the floor. Whether it was catching his man sprinting back on defense, sprinting to get open in the half-court offense, or sprinting to clean the glass – he never stopped. He showed he was a threat from behind the arc with his pretty 3-point shooting ability and displayed a strong basketball IQ with some of the incredible passes he made. My favorite thing I saw from him was how high he would elevate to block his man every time. This made him a force on defense and an all-around threat to his competitors.
Carter Temple
Carter Temple
Carter set himself apart throughout the tournament with his persistent hustle and communication. He was talking to and encouraging teammates on every play and always seemed to make the right pass. He showed fierce confidence by consistently asking for the ball and didn’t walk up the floor once. Temple showed he’s the type of player that positively influences the game in so many ways that don’t necessarily show up on the stat sheet at the end of duration. Even going to the huddle after a timeout, he ran to get with his coach for the next play. There’s no quit in him and that is how you earn respect quickly.
