Gem City Basketball Club has made some noise on the Prep Hoops Circuit during their debut season and Weatherspoon is their first prospect to debut in the rankings. Weatherspoon is a skilled point guard who can get hot in a hurry from the outside. Despite his size, Weatherspoon is a pest defensively and uses his quickness to give opposing ball handlers trouble. With the loss of the Washington brothers (one to graduation and two to moving out of state), there’s shots available for their team next season and I expect Weatherspoon’s numbers to make a big increase this season.
Another Prep Hoops Circuit standout from the Dayton area, Calahan has been a standout with Team Takeoff this spring. A talented guard scorer, Calahan was one of the top scorers in the Dayton city league. A standout on the gridiron as well, Calahan is an impressive athlete on the hardwood. Able to take over a game himself, Calahan projects as one of SW Ohio’s top scorers next season.
Marion Harding has a nice 2024 duo with Long and Trey Cady Trey Cady 6’8″ | SF Western Reserve Academy | 2024 State OH to build on for next season. Long is an impressive athlete who stood out with his physicality and motor. Potentially the most productive 2022-23 high school season of any player featured in this article, Long averaged 16 points and 5 rebounds a night as a Junior. As a defender, slasher and transition athlete, I think Long can play a nice role at a small college program.
A small school stud, Majors was named to an all state team at the Division IV level after finishing near the top of the TAAC in scoring as a Junior. An impressive athlete, Majors first stood out last fall at both the Toledo Top 64 event and the Prep Hoops 250 Expo where he had a couple dunks and made impact plays at both ends. Majors made his debut in the rankings after a strong spring with the AFO Michigan Mustangs on the NY2LA circuit. I liked how Majors is capable of finishing with both hands at the rim and plays at good pace. Expect another big year for Majors with Maumee Valley Country Day alongside Amani Dickerson Amani Dickerson 6’3″ | SG Maumee Valley | 2024 State OH .
Another Prep Hoops Circuit standout, Bartchak is a key guard for Next Level AAU. As a Junior Bartchak was a key bench piece for the Division II state runner up Lutheran West Longhorns. Bartchak is a guard who brings a ton of energy with his ability to create off the bounce with either a pull-up jumper or attack at the rim. Lutheran West once again projects to be one of the top teams in northeast Ohio and again compete for a state title. Bartchak can make an impact from the starting lineup or off the bench, whatever his team asks of him.
