Continue ReadingThe ranking for the class of 2026 were just released and the top of the rankings is guard heavy. Along with this crop of guards, there are other guards in other classes who are killing the game right now. In this Prep Hoops LA exclusive, we will look at the top guards from this class and others.
Autrail Manning Autrail Manning 6'1" | PG John Curtis | 2026 State LA (2026 | John Curtis)
Manning is a guard who can score or play a pure point. He has led John Curtis to the playoffs the last two years and has been the best player during both appearances. His ability to perform as a one or two makes him one of the tougher covers in the Boot on the perimeter….and he has three more years. Watch out for Manning.
Roderick Tezeno Roderick Tezeno 6'2" | SG Opelousas Catholic | 2026 State LA (2026 | Opelousas Catholic)
Tezeno has been one of the surprises in the Boot as he has played well on the varsity level as a freshman. He has a ton of videos of him in transition dunking on other teams. He is very good in transition and has a jumper that he can bury consistently. Tezeno should be one of the better players in the state next season.
Gavin Lucas Gavin Lucas 6'1" | PG Bonnabel Magnet Academy | 2026 State LA (2026 | Bonnabel)
Lucas has a built in burner on him as he is one of the most lethal underclassmen from the perimeter in the Boot. His ability to shoot the ball as well as he does opens up his game. Lucas can get to the rim if he so desires and makes teams pay that way. However, he shoots the ball so well that he is a danger anywhere on the floor.
De’avery Durham De’avery Durham 5'9" | PG Gibsland-Coleman | 2026 State LA (2026 | Giblsand-Coleman)
A point guard who already has a state title under his belt is now the unquestioned leader of his Gibsland-Coleman team. He is a player that leads by example as he plays hard on both ends of the floor. Durham can either hit teams with the three or drive to the rack relentlessly. He is a player who can not be left alone at any point on the hardwood.
Rondell Battle Rondell Battle 6'0" | CG Phoenix | 2026 State LA (2026 | Phoenix)
Battle has been a scoring guard his first two varsity years at Phoenix. He will be in a new position as well as the team looks for him to be the scoring and overall leader of their team. With his ability to score at all three levels and defend, he will be a player who should see his name in press clippings all season long.
Look into where these guards are playing in June as they will appear in the various team camps around the state.
