Friday was the opening day of bracket play and we were in the gym from 10:45 am to 9:00 pm watching as many players and games as we possibly could. We weren’t able to get our eyes on every team but here are the best players we saw on Friday.

Holmes is a versatile wing/forward with an impressive combination of length, athleticism and fluidity. The 6-foot-6 rising sophomore had a number of impressive finishes off of lob passes and drives in transition and half-court settings. Holmes is a smooth attacker off the rim off the dribble and has an unexpected pop of athleticism that surprises defenders.

Bryant made plenty of noise in the scoring column but his biggest impact came with his passing. The 6-foot-8 senior, who is committed to Arizona, had some grab, go and dish opportunities in transition where he rebounded the defensive glass and made advance passes up the floor. Bryant was also effective out of the mid-post on skip passes to open shooters and cutters slashing through the lane.
Chiang Ring, Park Center (MN)
Ring was one of the most effective rim protectors we saw as his combination of size, length and timing allows him to contest, change and block shots around the rim. Ring was also an effective rim-runner with coordination, fluidity and soft hands which allows him to catch, gather and finish through contact. He also showed some ability to step out and knock down face-up shots.

for a talented Perry squad. The 6-foot-5 lefty is a versatile, high motor wing/forward who is best as a rebounder, defender and all-around glue guy. Harrison can face-up, rip through and drive by defenders and finish through contact or above the rim. Harrison is a high-rate rebounder who pursues them in and out of his area.

Slater is another Southern California guy who has seen his stock rise over the last few months. The 6-foot-3 combo guard isn’t the flashiest of players but his steadiness as a playmaker, unselfishness and ability to take care of the ball make him an effective player on the ball. Slater has a smooth pull-up jumper off the dribble and is improving as a finisher around the basket.
