Jalen had a strong weekend helping lead Crossfire to the 17u semi-finals. He was a gamechanger the minute he stepped onto the floor with his ability to knock down three after three. I watched two games where he had defenders chasing him around the arc but was still able to get into space and knock down 4-5 threes a game. Used change of speed to also get to the rim and finish with the left hand. Against Border Select he took over late knocking down a couple of threes and attacking for another score to push his team into the semi-finals.
Particularly in the championship game defenders had a hard time containing the explosive burst that Zy’Ierre has. He’s able to go 0-100 in the blink of an eye to blow by the initial defender, and even at his size he’s a threat to elevate and throw down a dunk over the top of a defender. Defensively he can be a pest on the ball with his lateral quickness, and has the ability to turn defense into offense with his ability to force turnovers and quickly get up the floor. Big weekend from the 2024 point guard.
Brogan was relentless defensively during Minnesota Select’s 16u title win. He was constantly pressuring the ball, and has the type of quickness to repeatedly cut his man off and force him to change directions. Even when he wasn’t forcing steals, his pressure was disrupting the flow of the opposing offense to help his team pick up stops. Had some big time hustle plays to help his team pick up extra possessions. When he’s able to turn the corner and get downhill there wasn’t much defenders could do as he’s so good at drawing fouls and getting to the FT line but can also finish some difficult looks with his left hand.

Not many players in the state can put up points as quickly as CJ does. He has the ability to take a game over on his own with his ability to score at all three levels. Does a good job of staying on-balance when he gets to the rim, and can just hang in the air before finishing with touch off the glass. Even at 6’3 he can stop on a dime and pull-up for a mid-range shot, and is a three point threat off the catch. Although his team came up just short, he scored three straight buckets at the end of regulation to help his team come back and force overtime.

I was impressed by Levi’s ability to create off the bounce on Sunday. His athleticism sets him apart at the 15u level, with the ability to crossover and take off as he leaves his defender in the dust. Can get to the rim and hang in the air for acrobatic finishes while also looking comfortable pulling up for jumpers. Really aggressive getting to the basket and also puts his athleticism to use as a tough on-ball defender. Promising young prospect out of Elk River.
The 2026 point guard absolutely took over in the second half of the 15u semi-finals vs Minnesota Select. There was a stretch of a few minutes where he would just dribble down, break his man down off the dribble, and then either score on his own or draw in an extra defender before dropping it in to a wide open teammate. Even as a freshman he’s a highly skilled shot creator with a dangerous hesitation move that he can use to either get his man to drop off, or lunge in as he blows right by them. Comfortable scoring from all three levels but knows how to get his teammates involved as well.

Keller Hanson Keller Hanson 6’4″ | SG Sauk Rapids Rice | 2025 State MN just couldn’t seem to miss during the 16u championship game. The sharpshooting guard went on to drain five 3’s as he put up a 17 points for Comets Elite. He has no shortage of confidence in his shot, and as soon as he caught with a bit of space he was letting it fly. Keller’s shooting was a big reason why Comets Elite made it to, and were competitive in the 16u title game.
