Multiple high school events will be taking place in the month of June including the IBCA Top 100 workout, the Charlie Hughes Showcase, plus multiple summer leagues. Prep Hoops Indiana will be out in full force all month watching multiple high schools prospects across the board. Let’s go ahead and take a look at Part 2 of five players from the 2024 class that are on my watch list for the month of June.
Highlights
Windham is one of the best overall players in the in-state 2024 class due to his elite scoring ability from three and ability to play on and off the ball at a great rate. Playing for Meanstreets again this AAU season, during the spring he averaged 11.4 ppg, 2.0 rpg, and 2.4 apg. At 6-foot-2, Windham is an excellent defender and uses his speed and sharpness to make plays on the offensive end. He was also a high part of Ben Davis going 33-0 this past season. D1s continue to be heavily involved and he should continue to pick up traction in June.
Rutland is the best player in the 2024 in-state class that does not get the attention that he has earned in my opinion. He is a super quick guard that is so dynamic and when he gets out a transition and is able to run, there is no containing him. He is a tough bucket getter at all three levels. Along with Briscoe and Lewis, Rutland is going to be one of the primary pieces for this loaded Crispus Attucks team next season and a big June will keep his momentum going and hopefully start getting more attention at the D1 level.
Gatlin is a player that has always intrigued me due to his versatility of being able to play the wing and post. With players on Cathedral needing to step up and fill the holes that is left by the amount of talent that is leaving, Gatlin is a sneaky candidate to step in and breakout. He may not be the strongest small forward, but his elite athletic ability is what makes him standout. Defensively, I like his potential on that end to be just as versatile as he is on the offensive end. Gatlin is one of the player I am most interested in seeing this June.
Highlights
There has been quite a bit of change of scenery for Walters these past few months. He switched over to Indiana Elite from Grand Park Premier and recently it was announced that he would playing his senior season at Terre Haute North transferring from Linton-Stockton. As a guy that does all the little things it takes to win games, Walters is elite at that. However he lacks that scoring ability needed as it just looks he has no intentions to ever try and score the ball. With a new team, I would like to see Walters look to score more. His lack of scoring is really holding him back as far as playing at that next level.
Butler is a center that really has caught my eye since seeing him in early spring. While he is not the most mobile big man or athletic, his massive size takes up a ton of space in the paint and has those true post player skills. Rebounds well and has a soft touch around the rim. Yes, there are still areas you’d like to see him improve in in order to take his game to that next level, but you can’t teach size and that is what Butler has. If you are small school out there needing more size, Butler is a guy to watch in the month of June.
