The event featured several top small school players and teams. Here is a look at our Starting Five from the event. They were the cream of the crop.
Sawyer Huff Sawyer Huff 6'2" | SG South Iron | 2025 State MO (South Iron): The athletic 6’2″ 2025 guard was impressive during the day in leading the Panthers to a 3-0 record on the day. He is a solidly built player who loves to attack the basket with strength and authority. He was constantly putting pressure on the defense. If he wasn’t just getting downhill on the drive, he also displayed a nice cross-over and spin move to get to his spots. He was also knocking down 3-pointers, which made him even more difficult to defend. He continues to get better as he will move into a prime role as the Panthers seek a fourth consecutive Class 1 state championship next season.

(Mt View Liberty): After watching this talented 5’8″ 2024 point guard on the stream several times, it was my first time watching him in person and it was a treat. He is a certified bucket with shooting range out to 30 feet and the ability to create a shot off the dribble. He has good quickness and he has the ability to get into the lane virtually any time he wants to. That makes him such a tough cover. He can finish in the lane against much taller defenders. He also has excellent court vision with the ability to pass his teammates open.

Marquis Burse Marquis Burse 6'2" | SG South Iron | 2024 State MO (South Iron): The smooth 6’4″ 2024 guard helped lead the Panthers to a 3-0 record with his stellar play at both ends of the court. He is primed for a big impact role for the upcoming season after being an ace sixth man during the Panthers run to the Class 1 state championship last season. He is a major problem for opposing defenses with his combination of size, length and smooth handles, which enabled him to get into the lane and score with ease. He was also knocking down mid-range jumpers and 3-pointers. On defense, he was using his length to pick the pockets of opposing ball handlers clean on his way to easy transition layups.

Casen Stephens Casen Stephens 6'3" | SF Neelyville | 2025 State MO (Neelyville): A 6’4″ 2025 wing guard who was one of the most impressive perimeter shooters that I watched at the event. Whether he was coming off a screen or pulling up in transition, he had a sweet shooting stroke from long distance. He can also go inside and score over smaller defenders when presented with a mismatch. He is also a capable ball handler and playmaker who will share the ball with open teammates.
*******
Easton Evans (Greenville): A 6’3″ 2024 guard who combines his physical strength and a versatile skill set into a very potent offensive package. With several of his top teammates not present due to a baseball tournament, he did a lot of multi-tasking while playing with a younger group. He was getting buckets on power drives to the basket and pull up 3-pointers off the dribble. He was also strong around the basket as he took the contact and converted a few three-point plays. He also did a good job of getting his younger teammates involved an getting them scoring opportunities with his passing skills.
