This does not include players who were featured in the Starting Five write up that appeared on the website on Wednesday.
Holden Hills (Van Buren): A 6’0″ guard who has a physical build and who plays with a high amount of energy at both ends of the court. He used his strength to his advantage as he got downhill on the dribble and could finish in traffic very well. He didn’t mind seeking contact. He worked as hard on the defensive end as he moved his feet well. He can also hit the open 3-pointer with his high-arching shot.
******
Grant Hale (Neelyville): A 6’0″ point guard with a stocky frame who was fearless in his constant attacks to the basket. He stayed low on the dribble and his physical strength did the rest as he finished very well in the lane. He was also very good on the high post where he could pass it or make a strong one-dribble move. In the game that I watched, the more physical the game got, the more he was at home and his level of played elevated.
******
David Wiley (East Carter): A 5’9″ point guard who has slick handles and the ability to create his won shot off the bounce. He did a nice job of breaking down defenders with his escape moves or a nice burst to get to his spots. His pull up jumper in the middle area was cash money as he could stop on the dime and elevate on his shot.
******
Adrien Pendergraft (Mt. View Liberty): A 5’11” guard who has good athleticism and a nice feel for the game. He was constantly moving without the ball and was cutting hard and making the right reads and getting open layups. He was also very effective when getting downhill on the drive and he hit the Corner 3-pointer. He also has good defensive instincts, which led to a number of steals.
******
Lucas Cook (Winona): A 6’0″ combo guard who had the best motor that I watched during the entire day. The high energy performer played the game at one speed, which was “Full Tilt Boogie.” He was grabbing rebounds and going coast to coast for layups. He played the passing lanes well and was constantly getting steals and creating transition opportunities. He was fun to watch with his end to end relentless style of play.
******
Zach Joyner (Twin Rivers): A 6’7″ forward with good length who used his size to have a good defensive presence in the lane. He blocked a number of shots as he used his good timing around the basket. He worked the weakside well for offensive rebounds and putbacks and he did an effective job passing the ball from the high post.
******
Carter Pruett (Mt. View Liberty): A 6’1″ wing player who is strong physically and plays with a lot of activity. He was always around the ball, whether he was chasing down a loose ball or getting a putback on the offensive boards. He can also hit the open 3-pointer as well. He was very effective in the transition game.
******
Carter Williams (Twin Rivers): A high energy guard who was at his best when he was playing with pace and pushing the tempo. He scored on some nice runners in the lane off of his dribble penetration. He can also hit the open 3-pointer.
