We will take a look at the rankings by position over the next few days. Here’s a look at part two of our wings rankings, looking at numbers 15-6 of the shooting guards and small forwards in the junior class.
15) Dominique Bailey Dominique Bailey 6'2" | SG John Marshall | 2024 State VA | 6’2” SG | John Marshall (#38 Overall)
Every team would love to have a player like Bailey on their team, and they absolutely hate to play against a guy like him too. The 6’2” off guard is the ultimate glue guy, as he’s a top notch defender and has improved offensively to be a reliable option in multiple ways. He’s a pest defensively who will frustrate opponents and get under their skin, he guards well on and off the ball and takes charges well and he can knock down open shots and drive in straight lines offensively.
14) Jordan Watlington Jordan Watlington 6'5" | SF Menchville | 2024 State VA | 6’5” SF | Menchville (#33 Overall)
Watlington is one of the most underrated players in the 757, and he should be the go-to guy as a senior for Menchville with their talented 2023 class graduating. The 6’5” wing gives you a little bit of everything as he is a blue collar and high motor guy who defends and rebounds well for his position, he handles the ball well in transition and can get in the paint where he can make plays for himself and others and he can knock down shots both on and off the ball when he’s left open.
13) Danzelle Coles Danzelle Coles 6'5" | SG St Anne Belefield | 2025 State VA | 6’4” SG | Highland Springs (#31 Overall)
Coles has been one of the top players in Richmond over the last few years, and he was one of the top scorers in the area this past season. The 6’4” shooting guard is a walking bucket who can score the ball in different ways and has a toughness about him too. He can knock down shots consistently from deep, he’s shifty off the bounce and able to get to spots and create space to make difficult shots and he is a good rebounder who gets after it on both ends too.
12) Kolier Pruett Kolier Pruett 6'4" | SG Narrows | 2024 State VA | 6’4” SG | Narrows (#30 Overall)
In my seven or so years ranking prospects in VA, I’m not sure we’ve ever had a prospect from the small school of Narrows west of Roanoke in our rankings, but Pruett has shown he can play with anyone anywhere. He was one of the best players in Class 1 basketball this year, and he’s had a great spring with a talented GATA squad as well. He’s a big time athlete who can get up and down in transition and play above the rim, he knocks down shots consistently and he’s a good playmaker with vision off the bounce.
11) Kameron Tinsley Kameron Tinsley 6'5" | SF Cave Spring | 2024 State VA | 6’6” SF | Cave Spring (#28 Overall)
Tinsley is another western VA prospect who is on the rise, as he’s coming off a great junior season for Cave Spring and is making an impact with Team Durant on the EYBL Circuit. The 6’6” wing continues to improve as he grows into his body, and he can impact the game in a number of different ways. He has good size and is a good athlete on the wing, he can put it on the deck and create space in the midrange where he’s a very talented shot maker and the lefty can knock it down from deep as well.
10) Alejandro Ford Alejandro Ford 6'5" | SF Woodberry Forest | 2024 State VA | 6’5” SF | Woodberry Forest (#27 Overall)
Ford is a very intriguing prospect who continues to get better for a Woodberry Forest team that boasts a lot of talent, and he has a lot of tools that translate to the next level. The 6’5” wing has good size and a good frame already, he makes shots consistently from deep and he has the strength to clear out space and finish in the paint too. He’s a multifaceted prospect who impacts the game across the board and still has room to grow moving forward.
9) My’Kel Jenkins My’Kel Jenkins 6'5" | SF Woodside | 2024 State VA | 6’5” SF | Woodside (#26 Overall)
Jenkins is one of the most well-rounded and talented wings on this group, and now that he’s back and fully healthy he’s a prospect coaches should take a look at. He checks plenty of boxes as far as his physical and athletic tools, versatility and skillset are concerned. He can handle the basketball and break down defenders and score the ball at the rim and in the midrange, he’s a capable passer and playmaker and he can guard multiple positions and rebounds on both ends of the floor.
8) Markus Robinson Markus Robinson 6'2" | SG Veritas | 2024 State VA | 6’2” SG | Blue Ridge (#25 Overall)
When it comes to overall shot making ability, there aren’t many in this class that are better than Robinson who scored over 3,000 points in high school before transferring to Virginia. The 6’2” off guard is a dead eye shooter from deep who comes off screens and sets his feet well with a quick release and good range. He reads defenders well coming off of screens to get open, he can put it on the deck and has good footwork to get into his shot in the midrange and he is efficient and doesn’t take many bad shots.
7) Elijah Kelly Elijah Kelly 6'5" | SF Miller School | 2025 State #235 Nation VA | 6’7” SF | Radford (#17 Overall)
Kelly has as much potential as anyone in this class, as he continues to improve and despite coming from a small market has all the tools to be a successful division one player. At 6’7” he has a unique skillset at his size as he plays like a guard and that causes mismatches as he usually plays the 3-5. He’s a good ball handler who can put it on the deck and get downhill where he’s a good finisher, he can knock down shots from all three levels and is a good passer and he rebounds and protects the paint like a big man too.
6) Teyvien Barbour Teyvien Barbour 6'5" | SG Patriot (VA) | 2024 State #298 Nation VA | 6’4” SG | Osbourn (#12 Overall)
Barbour is one of the best players in NOVA public basketball over the past few years, and he’s perhaps the best shooter when it comes to all of public school basketball in VA. At 6’4” he has prototypical size as a two guard, he has deep range and a picture perfect form from deep, he can make shots on the move and he gets hot quickly from deep and doesn’t go through long droughts as a shooter. He has an impressive list of division one offers so far and that will continue to grow this summer when more teams gets to watch him.
