Recruiting is starting to heat up for several players heading into the summer but some prospects are in need of some more shine. Here are some players who have the potential to turn heads the next few months.
Butler is a versatile wing player who has shown the ability to play in the paint or on the perimeter and is a capable playmaker with the ball in his hands. Coming off a Sophomore season where he had three triple doubles, Jonah is having a good AAU season and showing he is capable of scoring the ball at a high level and doing so efficiently.
Highlights
Howard’s season came to an end with a broken bone in the regional tournament and he just recently got back on the court in time for the tail end of Spring AAU. Saxton is a proven playmaker who can make the right plays when needed. The point guard has some flash to his game and has shown himself to be a good shooter when needed. He doesn’t force his offense often but Saxton is a proven scorer.
Mackey was predominately a JV player and varsity role player as a Sophomore but with his size and toughness, Zek is showing he’s ready for more. At 6’5 and still growing, he can score the ball in the post and has shown some face up game. Playing AAU through a broken nose, Mackey is proving he’s tough and will not be deterred from taking advantage of all his opportunities.
McKinney had a good season for Henderson and has kept rolling into AAU season. After averaging double figures for Henderson last season, his role will only get better after G Thomas graduated. Lacon has shown he excels at getting to the rim and finishing but has a ways to go as a three point shooter. If he can become a more confident shooter from deep, watch out.
Bryan Station will return a lot next season but De Los Santos is likely their biggest X Factor. Based on his AAU performance, it appears that he may be starting to turn the corner from project with potential into a productive big. If Felix can continue to elevate his game, he is capable of averaging a double-double in his Junior season and be a difference maker in the 11th region.
